Honestly I was thinking about it in terms of the greater good. The "golden eras" lasted as long as the third-born's first-born child is alive. If that child is immortal then you get an eternal "golden age". Loopholes baby!

Like I get. Power, immortality, and a goth dommy-mommy are good enough reasons, but you can also have him be kind and sacrificial in him motivations. Makes him feel less vindictive.
