A long absent AEW talent has asked for their release.

Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp has learned that Miro, formerly Rusev, has asked for his release from All Elite Wrestling.

Miro hasn't wrestled for AEW at all in 2024, last winning a match at AEW Worlds End 2023. We're told that Miro was sidelined longer than AEW expected after that match, but has been healthy for quite some time. There was some consideration internally to use him in the AEW All In Casino Gauntlet, and he had pitched working with Jon Moxley earlier this year. Miro and AEW were unable to get on the same page creatively, something that became somewhat common for the two sides over recent years.

Miro worked only seven matches for AEW in 2023, and has only wrestled 11 matches since December 2021.

We've not learned if Miro was granted his release or if there's interest from WWE. Miro is earning into the seven figures. Miro had signed a contract upon joining AEW in September 2020 that was set to expire in Spring 2022. However he signed a four-year extension around that time, that could still have him with AEW until Spring 2026.

I mean… see ya

John Lavelle

Sucks, Mox/Miro would have banged.

Andrew Bates

Dude seems like a headcase tbh. I don’t get it, Miro.

Flameducky

That doesn't work for me, brother

Randy Conner

be better off for both parties i think at this point lol

Matthew Bamford

Genuinely wondering what the creative he rejected with Mox was.

Chris Cobb

Getting paid to sit home and enjoy life is a blessing, but if he wants to get back into the ring~then they should release him.

TorchCrawler

I loved Rusev but high 6-low 7 figures is an insanely high downside for him

Michael Buckley

Even if Miro is leaving, I would LOVE to see just that one program of Moxley & Miro If Moxley beats Darby, then Danielson, I think Moxley/Miro as a well built match for big late October Dynamite would be great for all sides involved Moxley’s focus would be around Miro not living up to his talent level, making excuses for never reaching it in WWE & AEW Match would slap too in its physicality

David C

I think AEW should agree to this. Unless there are active plans to actually use the guy why keep paying him seven figures?

young Jay

Pity what could of been .Personal life and all that just cut your losses miro.Give him his release. Would of been great in New Japan .Might go back to Stamford who knows

Trill

Damn

Darryl Rodwell

I'd say let him go. I don't know the behind the scenes issues that happened but clearly Miro has been underutilized at this point. I think they should just part ways

Nacht Bogen

7 figures and you cant find any use for him? I cant imagine wasting that kind of money and doing nothing

Matt Hennessy

I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. His AEW run started of great with the TNT title run. But the last 2 years he’s barely wrestled. He wrestled 4 matches in 2022 & was healthy that full year. Guy hasn’t been used since Worlds End & realistically if your AEW & you don’t have any creative plans for the guy just let him go. It doesn’t hurt you & maybe WWE picks him up or maybe they don’t

David Majors

Of course he wanted to work with Moxley. Did he want to win the world title, too?

Josh Savory

I don't blame AEW for Miro being underutilized. If you're getting paid 7 figures, you should be more of a team player.

Mike Wall

Let him go. Need more team players, not less

Ryan

Another guy who made the jump and felt like he was above this place. So long 👋

Ryan Cremeans

Man, what a weird run. His TNT title run is one of my favorite things AEW ever did, but it seems like his ego has stopped him from ever getting back to that level

Richard Hughes

Let him rot. You signed the thing for a reason and didn't mind getting paid for doing nothing.

Raymond Slover

He was injured a few times, then the divorce. I thought they were just giving him time to heal.

Stephen Bradley

If they don’t grant it looking forward to see how everyone who tweeted FreeAli will react

Todd Silvers

I’d only agree to take release him if he takes Keith Lee with him. Dudes are literally stealing $

Noah Sheehan

I wish I could get paid 7 figures, not do my job, then demand to leave before my contract is up. What a victim. He used to be one of my favs. At a certain point it’s on the talent to take creative and make something of it. “I face X wrestler and win the feud” can’t be your only pitch to creative.

Noah Sheehan

Miro and Andrade are clearly the type of people who will never accept their lack of popularity as their responsibility at a certain point. If both major companies are ruining you creatively, you might just not be creative. I look forward to miro complaining about wwe just like Andrade.

Will Landrum

Mostly they were. But he has this thing where Creatively he thinks he should just win every feud and be in the main event constantly. Sounds like a big ego issue.

Charles Lee Ray

Bro was rejecting storylines like he was prime hulk hogan. Release this diva.

Matthew

Another guy who thinks he's bigger than the company.

Marc Opps

This sucks. One of my personal favorites. The Redeemer persona was outstanding. Wish they could work it out.

Ryan Cremeans

I imagine they won't. Much like with Malachi Black, they'll let him sit it out, but won't let him just blow off his contract

Robbie Wray

I like your idea of New Japan. He could go there and be a main event star day 1 and be the most dominating champion in a long time. NJPW is needing top level talent with impact - Miro can absolutely be that guy.

Robbie Wray

Would be a great matchup for Mox's first title fued too. Miro is a big dominating force, wouldnt be a slouch opening feud. Miro could then lead into a feud with Hurt Syndicate, trying to get revenge for ruining his marriage and his life, could be a captivating 3-6 months of television. After that, Hurt Syndicate could stroll into a feud with BCC culiminating at Blood and Guts. It's right there if they just go with it.

The Mayor Pete

Would love to see Rusev vs Bronson Reed.

anakinjmt

Seems like they don't use him because he doesn't like any of what they pitch

Jonathan V Hedman

I kind of want to see a return of big Bartholomew

Stalla

The problem with Mirro has been Mirro.

Insomnia Inc

Sad lack of Ishii vs Miro noises

Mike Owens

Keith is having health issues, and cutting him would look not so great. Miro is just being a turd.

Lynchman

A while back. somebody talked about how some that are cut from WWE are more than happy to go elsewhere and see what they can do. Others sign with AEW, but all they truly want is to get back to WWE and feel they are settling for less. Andrade and Miro are both, in my opinion, in the latter camp. Folks like FTR and Swerve clearly are the former.

Jeremyb3615

I was really glad whenever AEW started they were a alternative to WWE but I just don't know what direction they're going in hopefully they'll be a better product once their TV deal gets done we shall see
