There has been some frustration within the women's ranks in WWE.

On Fightful Select's discord (access for subscribers here), we answered a question about that frustration, and were asked about it on this week's Hump, which you can check out at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB8rdcsg4EY

In the podcast, we noted that the frustration was nothing even resembling major low points, with Royal Rumble 2022 as an example. A number of readers asked why specifically Royal Rumble was cited. We did a whole feature on the messes associated: https://www.fightful.com/wrestling/exclusives/inside-royal-rumble-3-look-behind-nightmare-royal-rumble-2022

One particular are of note was that widely respected producer TJ Wilson aka Tyson Kidd walked away for a period of time ahead of that Royal Rumble. One of the reasons we were given was that the vision Vince McMahon had was so off the wall, that there was trouble coexisting with it. We're told that this and other things let to Wilson taking time away and WWE calling in Fit Finlay to help produce the match.

Fightful has recently learned at one point early in the planning stages of the 2022 Women's Royal Rumble, that Vince McMahon had pitched to have Ronda Rousey eliminate the entire field of the Royal Rumble in what would be her first match in over two and a half years. We're told that early on, Vince was very steadfast in wanting to do something like this because they had Rousey on a full-time, advanced schedule for all of 2022. Eventually Rousey was brought back, entered at number 28, spent ten minutes in the match, eliminated four people and won.

Sasha Banks/Mercedes Mone had been pitched by many others as the winner.

There was also frustration with Vince McMahon as the vast majority of the cameos had no real plan, and McMahon had instructed them to "get in and get out." Summer Rae, Sarah Logan, Cameron, Kelly Kelly, Melina, Molly Holly and Ivory all spent a minute or less in the match.

At least four cameos WWE had planned for that year rejected WWE's overtures to be in the Royal Rumble. This included Peyton Royce, Billie Kay and Nia Jax. At least one cited TJ Wilson's lack of involvement as a reason.

Holy shit

Taylor Cannon

Mannn if Ronda had eliminated everyone. That would've been horrible.

Osuman Massaquoi

Wtf?! Please tell me i read this correctly 😭

MB

So a greater version of Shayna Baszler eliminating everyone in the Chamber, which shock horror didn't actually get her over.

Juan Ortiz

Holy shit. Soooo Vince McMahon wanted to do the Brock Lesnar story in the 2020 Men's Royal Rumble but MUCH MUCH WORSE. YIKES and that just sounds fucking awful as hell.

joe gonzales

That’s the way he wanted to book Brock lol making Ronda the female Brock would’ve been crazy

ES

The random "legends" lasting a minute, Rousey winning from 28, Brock winning the men's after being in it for only about 2 minutes. Forgot how awful an event it really was.

Jonathan Newman

The Inside Royal Rumble link looks to be broken.

Matthew Brownlee

Her entering in at number 1 and eliminating everyone would of def been a choice lol. That's wild af

Goku Kenshi

Yea if it wasn't already obvious Vince lost his touch, this decision had it gone through would have been worse than when Goldberg beat the Fiend. Glad it didn't thankfully..

MB

Remember that one year when there was a rumour that someone would win at #30 because everyone else had been eliminated and they'd only need to enter the ring?

Mino Garcia

😭😭😭😭vince is truly something else

Irwin Guevara

I wouldn’t mind if Jacob Fatu gets to do this next year

Tucker

This show was here in my hometown. I'm so glad I didn't waste my money on going lol.

John Horton

Well, you said it was insane and that idea definitely fits the bill. The sad part is it's not the least bit surprising with Vince involved.

Jeffrey Brown

What’s crazy is that if they had gone through with this, it would probably be the most memorable Royal Rumble in history. I’m a hardcore WWE fan and I couldn’t even remember off-hand who won the 2022 Royal Rumble. But if this would have happened, no one would forget.

Joe Gonzalez

Somehow it could have all been worse. Any chance we can get that article link fixed though?
