The Rock is back on Smackdown, and it came together this week.

Fightful Select was told by sources close to the situation that creative was told just a few days ahead of Smackdown, with it being a shock to many in the company.

The Rock appeared and announced a number of things -- WrestleMania 42 in New Orleans, that he wanted Cody Rhodes' soul, and that he'd be at Elimination Chamber to see if Cody would give him said soul.

As far as future plans, we're still working to learn how it affects things. Cody vs. John Cena had been in the plans since late last year. Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk, and later Reigns, Punk and Rollins had been planned at various points.

Back in October, WWE creative was preparing stories as if The Rock would not be available for WrestleMania. That continued all the way up until this week. At one point a top talent had joked to Ibou of Self Made PW that WrestleMania "was at the mercy of Dwayne," as he'd mentioned on our post-Raw podcast.

As of the evening ahead of Smackdown, Cody Rhodes was already pulled from the main event of Smackdown, which was reflected internally. Those that we've spoken to internally say that this all came together very late, and even they haven't been told the next direction.

Cristian Scovell was listed as a writer on the segment, who does work on most of Cody Rhodes' segments. Michael Hayes was listed as the producer. Despite the listed writer, The Rock does not have to follow strict scripts, in case you were wondering if "fuck" was scripted.

We'll work to learn more about the situation.

I guess Dwayne really just likes chaos 💀

James Northey

Still just such a confusing segment, but I’m hopeful this storyline will be good at elimination chamber

That promo was…it was something

John Thee Punisher

Kind of sick of him doing this. The ego of that guy.

Jesse G

Is Punk going to lose his mania main event to the rock? Again?

John Horton

I guess it's a yearly event now with Dwayne randomly deciding to blow up the WrestleMania plans.

Chris Podymaitis

This promo screamed, WWE doesn’t know the exact direction yet so let’s keep it vague and give us a week to iron it out.

Scott George

I'm tired of the Rock f*****g up everything around Mania time. Go away already.

Will Landrum

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sounds like typical wwe wrestlemania season

Maddie Patton

Takes away the Liv/Naomi match, gives it back, then just has them do a beat down that was less than 2 minutes 🙄

Chocobo_Sage

Dwayne showing up and ripping up plans last minute. Sounds like a Vince move. Ugh

Lynchman

I am done with The Rock. He will screw WWE and any/all wrestlers to advance his own career. You can argue every wrestler should focus on his own career, but most respect others. Rock has a position of power and all reports say WM will be whatever he wants it to be. POS

The Lane Family

My headcanon is Dwayne is starting to feel a little insecure in his powers now that he's working with bigger names than him (like Scorcese and DiCaprio), so he had to take an unplanned vacation "back home" and big-league a few people to make himself feel better.

Jacob Lange

I really don’t think this changes any mania plans tbh, the only way it would is if they did rock Cody but rock is not in wrestling shape. I think this will just create a story for after mania throughout the year, rock trying to corrupt the goody two shoes babyface of the company

Aristidis Fantis

The Rock showing up and changing plans on a dime. Sounds like Vince.
