WWE has been interested in a top free agent.

Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp has learned from a number of sources that WWE has had their eye on Jeff Cobb of late. Cobb has been working in New Japan Pro Wrestling, and even wrestled and won there multiple times this week.

After dropping a match last month, Cobb said “So where does that leave Jeff Cobb? It seems I can’t win when all the marbles are down. G1, New Japan Cup. Long gone are the days when I went 8-0 in the G1. Now I can’t even break .500. Where does that leave Jeff Cobb? Maybe it’s time to take my bags and go somewhere else. I don’t know. I don’t know.”

One source indicated that Cobb actually showed up on the company's internal roster this week. However, we've not confirmed that as of yet.

When we spoke to sources in AEW, we were told he wasn't expected to join their company.

Damn they got Jeff Cobb, guy is an absolute monster, surprised it took him so long to sign with one of big companies, he could kill in nxt or even a main roster run would be solid for him

Crazy to think this when many years ago, WWE allegedly rejected him because they thought he was too old. Now he could be going there aged 42. Still a great talent.

That was a Vince Johnny Ace & Prichard move it’s why 2.0 happened they didn’t like HHH Regal & HBK signing wrestlers from the indies or anyone over the age of 30. Was a dumb rule glad it didn’t last

This one like Josh Alexander really surprises me. I honestly thought Alexander would end up in WWE reforming the North with Ethan Page & given how close Cobb is with certain people in AEW I thought it was a forgone conclusion he would be AEW bound. In any case as a fan of both companies & more importantly the wrestlers once the man gets paid & is happy that’s all that matters

This^^^^^^^. I don't understand tribalism. It's one the dumbest things. If you make fun of another promotion you're not a real wrestling fan. There's sooooooo much great wrestling it's crazy. This is the day I dreamed of as a fan back in the days of The Godwins, the Goon, and jobber matches galore.
