What was actually supposed to happen during the MJF/Jeff Jarrett storyline?

The plans for MJF and Jeff Jarrett rapidly changed last year.

The feud between MJF and Jarrett was one pitched by Jarrett as one of the last big storylines of his career. After the January 15, 2025 AEW Dynamite, the feud started to pick up criticism online and the plans were quickly changed.

We’re told that the Jarrett “call girl” lines were created by the writer on the segment and approved by Jarrett, with MJF pushing back on those, as he felt it didn’t help the babyface Jarrett. MJF was also have said to have warned against the “scumbag” insult as it would lead to MJF getting chants.

Originally, the feud was pitched to last until AEW All In, then Revolution, before the decision to wrap it up sooner. Tony Khan himself had never planned for the feud to be a long term feud, and had other plans in mind for MJF.

Fightful is told it was never pitched or planned for Jarrett to win the World Championship during this run.

Death, Taxes, Jeff Jarrett being out of touch

Everything started to turn around in AEW as soon as they pivoted from Jarrett to Hangman for MJF last year. Between COPE, Dustin Rhodes, and Jarrett, they started the year SO BAD

Does explain why MJF was seemingly floundering after the quick Hangman feud going into All In. The pointless Hunt Syndicate feud was just time filler

Imagine thinking in 2025 that calling a woman who wasn't even involved in the story a "call girl" would garner anything aside from negativity.
