Update on Samantha Irvin-AEW (Patreon)

Another free agent is finally about to hit the market.

Samantha Johnson, formerly known as Samantha Irvin, is a free agent this month. Irvin chose to leave WWE two years ago, and as a condition of her leaving, she had a non-compete applied. This was an actual non-compete, as opposed to the “termination periods” that are often referred to as non-competes for released WWE talent.

Naturally, there has long been speculation that Samantha would join AEW in an on-screen capacity. Fightful Select can confirm that’s been discussed internally a number of times, but it was made clear that isn’t going to be happening immediately upon her free agency. Johnson, who is married to AEW star Ricochet, has been backstage at dozens of AEW events over the last couple of years and has a great relationship with the company. However, if she appears, it will likely be down the road.

Previously, Samantha has communicated a lack of interest in returning to ring announcing, a role which she excelled at in WWE.
