It looks like Brian Cage will be sticking around in All Elite Wrestling, at least if he's to be believed.

Word made it around backstage at Wednesday's All Elite Wrestling Dynamite show that Brian Cage had told those close to him that AEW picked up his option year on his contract. Cage was said to have been surprised by this, as he and virtually everyone on the All Elite Wrestling roster thought his deal would simply expire.

Cage continues to work the independent scene for the likes of Revolver, Warrior Wrestling, among others. However, he's not appeared on AEW programming since October, with his last match outside of the Jericho Cruise taking place on the October 8 episode of Rampage. We have no update on a potential on-screen return for him.

We've reached out to All Elite Wrestling officials for a confirmation on this, but haven't heard back yet. So far, this is only what Cage himself told others, including that he believes he's among the top paid in the company.

I hope this is true, dude is a hell of a talent and deserves a fair shot away from Team Taz

Insert Tony Schiavone "WTF" gif here LOL

Peyton Carter

That’s a very interesting one. And he has been healthy this whole time? I wonder why he hasn’t been on TV lately. Hopefully he will come back in the revolution ladder match or something. Just for some extra meat!

Dave O'Neill

Presumably the incels who cry all day about him on twitter with STFU now. Hopefully his awful wife stops bullying talent and demanding a job aswell

Noah

Lol I ask SRS for an update on cage and this is the next post. Now that’s money we’ll spent on fightful!

Ben Williams

I reckon that hoss ladder match is about to get... hossier.

John Lopes

Maybe with the increase of beefy boys in the company Tony has ideas for good matchups?

AH

Lmao, what? This why isn't he used?

Laura

Why…they don’t even use him on Dark!

Dave Stroble

I’d love to see this dude actually get in there and get a shot.

Possible next "big" opponent for Hangman after Cole? Cage does have a win over the champ, so he would at least have a claim.

edit. nvm, just posted my question in the q and a thread

Michael Wolff

If true, bonkers and baffling. My gut feeling: Cage is making up bullshit to jockey for a better payday when he jumps to CYN. The truth: who knows? I feel like 99% of people were positive that the absence meant his deal was running out. Guess we'll see.

Michael Wolff

Also, I asked this on twitter but figured I could ask on the post itself, as well: I'm noticing the phrasing "Word made it around backstage at Wednesday's All Elite Wrestling Dynamite," can you clarify whether it means Cage was there in person saying it, or just that he was a topic of gossip for those at the show?

UntoldUnknown

It really makes me wonder if they have any plans for him or if it's a Mustafa Ali type thing. For the record, I highly doubt the second option is the case just based off of the company's track record so far but it could always be a possibility.

Rincewind

Good. Regardless of anything else, he's always entertaining to watch wrestle. Few big men can do what he does as fluidly. While I dont agree with some of his recent historical choices, I think he should be used like how all Giants are, especially with AEW missing a Kingmaker wrestler like Cody.

Sheila Antonio

So Cage expected his contract to expire but was surprised AEW picked up his option? That sounds like great news except they're not using the guy. If they're keeping him, they better use him.

Dirty Jose

Wait the only source of this is Cage himself/whoever he's told?

josh r

If this is true, I'm genuinely confused. What's the point of keeping him on the payroll at this point?

David Feig

Cage should return with a battle vs the Acclaimed "See I'm back! "

Ant

If he's making money good for him.

Good for him for continuing to get a paycheck from AEW. Though, I'm completely baffled that they would want to keep him considering he hasn't been on Dynamite or Rampage in forever.

Michael Wolff

Oh hey, Sean added on to the end with, "including that he believes he's among the top paid in the company." Lmao Cage was DEFINITELY bullshitting for contract leverage [Added for clarity: to get a bigger payday when he jumps to CYN] and got caught red handed. [Entirely my speculation]

Troy A Palek

I mean sure I can believe they picked up his option, even though I don't understand why. However I'd be SHOCKED if he was even top 20 highest paid on the roster

Brian The Dean

I hope they do something with him. He has potential and I'd love to see him back being a monster

Ritchie R

If Keith Lee wins the face of the Revolution ladder match I could see Cage coming back for a feud.
