3:50 Mat, you said it, this episode starts out mirroring episode 1, but if you're paying attention, you can see clear signs of "the Republic" falling apart. More cracks in the walls and fountain, worse looking base full of drunks, etc. I'm telling ya, even if you don't react to them, you really should watch the 3-part "What You Didn't Notice in 86" video series on YouTube. No matter how closely you looked at the anime, those videos will point out the 75-90% of details, references, and symbolism that you absolutely missed.
