Really great first episode. It felt at times like it was animated by Studio Shaft! I love it!

- 3:10: No... it's far more unique than that... it just *is* the OP.

The unique, slow feeling (positively) and well thought out direction focused on visual storytelling rather than dialogue as well by Souta Ueno on Studio DEEN... it translates super well on any genre he touches, I see. I will say... this reaction rewatch helped me to understand some of the purely visual storytelling scenes like with the placements of the key during the trap.

That was the darkest anime I've seen in a while. Stylishly done, though, and I appreciated their restraint with regard to overt bloodshed.

This is directed by Souta Ueno, probably best known for directing his previous work, Days with My Stepsister. Say what you will about the subject matter itself, but there's no denying that the direction in that show was probably its biggest strength. It's cool to see that translating well in this well, with this borderline feeling like a Shaft show at times.

The moment it set the tone at the beginning, it was very serious and had horror elements. So I kind of knew what we are up to... I just don't know if this is something I should give to my soul.

Okay. I think I won't be watching along for more episodes. This has a great quality, great sound design, but yeah.. I can't watch people die like that for multiple episodes.

I just watched this episode and noticed something interesting. Correct me if I’m wrong. The chair that is not being sat on (both in the death game room and in Yuki’s room) is turned upside down, which makes it resemble the number 4 — a number associated with death or bad luck in Japanese culture. Also, Yuki’s hairpin looks like two number 4s combined. Because of this, it feels like everyone who gets close to Yuki ends up dying or having bad luck. The “big booba” girl and the tall girl didn’t get close to Yuki and survived — they also seemed much closer to each other (maybe Yuri?). The first girl who recommended Yuki as the leader died. The blue girl and the yellow girl both became close to Yuki — and they died too. sorry, if any grammar or sentence wrong i used ChatGPT to translate.

Thinking more about what you said regarding rewards and money, the first girl to die mentioned she'd played two years ago, then returned to a regular boring job, and now is playing again. So the income per game seems to be less than 2 year's income for a young person, unless she was a spendthrift, paid off an expensive debt, or whatever, which is also possible. Yuki does say in the episode she's doing it for a regular living (as the title also indicates) but she doesn't seem to have an expensive lifestyle, so I don't think you'd risk 28 or 99 games for that, so she's either supporting others or has some other need for the money...
