Crazy episode, so much to unpack... A lot of mixed feelings and confusion here. On to the season finale!

Eris wrote a letter, she will forever regret that because she is shit at communicating.

The most recent Mushoku Tensei season 3 trailer answers all your questions that should have been answered before season 2.

It feels just right. It didn't feel off, if you pay attention to the music, the framing, the atmosphere, then it was building up into a crecendo, but the epilogue pulled the rug. Imo, I feel you've flanderized the characters a bit leading to this big confusion spell.

Enjoyed the reaction. Eris has been maturing a lot lately, though if she made a complex plan, that may be her first! I get the feeling Eris had only five people she listens to: Ghislaine, Sauros, Rudy, Rujerd, and her mom Hilda. And the only one of those giving her advice said "run away!" The Lord who wanted her as a concubine is the same Greyrat who took her siblings from Hilda, that her dad wanted to start a coup against and have Rudy replace, right? Paul's older scummy brother? So on hearing that, Eris instead sleeps with that lord's nephew (Rudy), who is also a person in line to possibly lead a revolt against him in a coup... If that action got out, I wonder if it might send a certain message!

So, don't watch the trailer until one finishes the 2nd season, I assume....

I took the fall on it for informative purposes to look at it muted. Uhh... I can understand what is meant, but yeah, I am sure to just leave it be until she comes up again.

5:30 Seeing Ruijerd breakdown just a little....that shite hits every time. One of the 3 strongest characters in the entire series, and he gets choked up about such ephemeral good news....

6:40 This remix of the OP song is just so lovely and developed, grown into something new, just like the children we have been following.

7:00 One more of the very few things I LOATH about the anime adaptation. After the Mana Calamity, there was NOTHING left. No structures, no life, no big tree, no anything. It was a barren field the size of a small kingdom. The anime showing ruins here makes even less sense, seeing as only 2 years and some change has gone by. If the buildings had been left and just people and animals teleported, the structures wouldn't be anywhere near this level of breaking down. So, the anime fucks this up on 2 very real levels. I don't get why they didn't go with the devastation of the novel.

TheErisianMonk

16:50 There is a whole ass side story of Ghislaine's tribulations after being teleported. It was not pretty, even for a moment. I mourn for Philip and Hilda's endings.

23:35 I believe the actual line was "I want to be your night kitten," or something like it. I mean, those Greyrat boys sure love their beastfolk, so.... The anime's change is.....weird. 24:20 One of the anime's greatest sins was totally leaving out Eris's inner monologuing that took place while they had sex. Her admiring of Rudeus's hands, and while realizing hiw much smaller than hers they were, she realized that she was tak8ng advantage of Rudi. Using him to relieve some of the pain and emptiness that came with learning that her family was all gone. She is so pensive and thorough in her thoughts that night, yet the anime couldn't give her any of that on screen, sadly. I feel like leaving out her thoughts and fears immensely changes the context of their night together. Kinda like that one other thing later...... If only anime could do what words on a page can do.

28:07 Mat with a perfectly eloquent way of reacting to this episode. Love it.

The first trailer would spoil a ton of stuff in season 2. The second one does as well but has nothing to do with season 2.

I think it's fine. Having the "blast wave" completely destroy average structures while the reinforced ramparts and stone structures somewhat survive gives a convenient central location for survivors to congregate after the disaster. Rudy's house partially survives presumably due to the distance from the center. This is very much like how a nuke would damage the surroundings. Close to the center only fortified structures could resist the blast but with heavy damage. Beyond the shockwave you still have a thermal burst that would burn down all other flamable structures like Rudy's house. Is this depiction exactly like the novel, no. But having those locations exist, but damaged heavily, is good for story telling. The author approved these changes. He works closely with the studio on every episode. I trust the studio because the author is heavily involved.
