Stressful indeed. Damn I had to pause so often to get through this episode. Such uncomfortable topics, and on top not handled very well imo

FINALLY I can talk. In your recording of episode 15: -08:07 Rudy, referring to taking a concubine for the sake of having a child: "I'll do no such thing. What I want isn't children. It's the fruit of love with someone I cherish". -08:16 You: "shredding the 'Greyrat curse' as well". Brother what. -09:04 You: "you know what they said there, right?"..."He established 'no, I want monogamous relationship', right? 'I want only you as a partner'" Holy moly the assumptions, the wishful thinking, the character misreading... That for me was one of the hardest moments watching your reactions. I know what you said in the past and I think I have at least a partial grasp on your sense of morality regarding relationships, so I understand why you jumped to those conclusions, but this was a classic case of huge headcanon. NEVER ONCE Rudy said "the person I cherish" (implying a single person), or "only you", or "monogamous relationship". He straight up just said that he wants children because of love and not purely for the sake of reproduction.

menelito

It's fine to misread the character sometimes, it's just that it's hard to watch people (like the Semblance of Sanity brothers) that create their own headcanon for a story and end up getting disappointed when things (obviously) don't go their way. I hope you don't fall in this trap too much... we need to stay humble and trust what a show tells us without assuming too much stuff. P.S.: It's fine, really, I do it, you do it, everyone does it, it was just... AAAHHH, frustrating in that episode... because I immediately thought "ouch, he's gonna be disappointed and maybe hate the character because he didn't stay true to himself or something". I was immediately worried.

demonic-myst

Monogomy isnt the prodominent standard in their eold snd wasnt pre christianity for our own world either

Ok the anime actually adapted this in a pretty bad way they made Roxy look worse than she should. In the novel they make it pretty clear that Rudy was dying he didn’t eat or drink enough for weeks. Roxy started to panic bc she was going to loose someone she cared about so she went to Elinalise and the party for help. They told her that the best way to cure a man who’s down in the dumps or lonely is sex as the concept of depression isn’t a thing so they don’t know how to treat it. Sex was a way in real life to treat depression during thos times as well. Roxy asked could Elinalise do it but she refused because she’s sylphies grandmother. So they put that in her head Roxy was trying everything she could to help Rudy and nothing worked she didn’t just do this as the first option she tried everything before because she know the boundaries she was crossing she decided that she would pay the consequences so she decided to go through with it. Rudy was so weak that you could see bone they didn’t show it enough he looked to healthy and they skipped that whole dialogue and made it seem like she just had sex with him just bc. But the facts was he would’ve died leaving his wife and kids alone. Roxy was expecting right after it for Rudy to hate her and for him and her to go separate ways she was worried about Saving his life but she also loved him. And last the decision to Marry Roxy was completely different Rudy wasn’t going to do it but Elinalise lied to Rudy and said that Roxy told her that she was pregnant with his kid basically guilt tripping him into marrying her. Elinalise cared about Roxy so she didn’t want Rudy to abandoned her but she also just found out she’s related to sylphie. Hope this helps you understand what happens more bc when I first seen this I was mad at her but then I read it and they didn’t adapt this part correctly at all. It doesn’t excuse her actions but it gives you a better understanding on why she did it she went through every option and that was her last one.

Also, sadly, I don't remember very well how I felt about Roxy's actions the first time I watched this. I guess it was so obvious it was gonna happen that I was pretty much desensitized to it when it happened, because I don't remember getting angry at them at all, I think I was just worried about how Sylphie would feel (and about her health, since freaking Mangod tricked us). Anyway, knowing a bit about the cut content, to me her actions were absolutely justified. Disrespectful to Syphie, sure, since she didn't have a say in Roxy's action, but it's also true that Sylphie sadly couldn't say or do anything in that moment, being so far away, so letting the father of their child starve to death would have been way worse in so many ways. To me, Roxy having ulterior motives does nothing to discredit her honest will to save him. I can't stand the "but they had ulterior motives" argument, EVERYONE does everything with "ulterior motives", even charity pays you off with a sense of gratification, in my opinion the 'selfless act' is basically impossible. Whoever says the contrary is either a literal saint with inhuman selflessness or never did charity work. I think society would be way prettier and less bigoted if we accepted ourselves as 'flawed' human beings with selfish desires. Anyway, philosophical rant aside, if we want to blame someone, the rest of the group was at fault for leaving Rudy in his self-destructing grief. I know they meant no harm, obviously, but their inaction "forced" Roxy to make a choice. To sum it up: ROXY AND SYPLPHIE SUPREMACY, F*CK ERIS. P.S.: I bet I'm going to love Eris again once she shows up. Yup, I'm that simple.

Greybeard

Great reaction to Mushoku! You're not the only reactor who went into the anime with some reservations, only to declare it one of their top five or ten. I've seen that happen several times, and it just shows how well-written the story is. By the way, will you watch all the season three trailers before it starts?

Amberyootoob

Find yourself a woman who understands you as much as Sylphie understands Rudeus. Sylphie is best girl!

BS41

I have never been a fan of the multiple lovers thing only cause it feels like an easy out for tension when everyone is just happy to all be with the 1 guy but it didn't bother me as much with this show. Shows I would recommend are Lord of mysteries, summertime rendering, erased

Amberyootoob

The people of Millis are based off of internet puritans from what I've read.

Amberyootoob

Rudeus may be many things but one thing he refuses to be is a deadbeat dad.

menelito

Wow, that's actually hilarious

Amberyootoob

I’ll say about Norn’s speech, she said nothing wrong but she was out of line, it wasn’t her place to speak.

menelito

Almost last thing, I promise: I don't know if it's because of my knowledge of part of the cut content, but I didn't really mind Roxy's monologue in ep 23. I think it's pretty self-explanatory that in this animated version she blamed herself entirely to relieve Rudy from more sense of guilt. The "took advantage" was obviously to avoid him feeling the guilt of cheating on Sylphie. I mean, the whole point of sleeping together was to pull him out of the void, taking the whole blame and acting as the "selfish" one in order to avoid him feeling even worse because of the guilt, was just par for the course. Actual last thing: I kinda see where you're coming from but the whole reaction to that (the indignation, the shivering and the berating) was pretty overblown and almost... theatrical. Meh. I don't love performative righteousness. I still like your content because, first of all, it's clear you care about what you do (or at least you're good enough of an actor to look like you do, and that's, no joke, a skill I respect) and you put more effort in your vids than 90% of other reaction channels. That's already a big win. I just don't love how "sensitive" you get in front of uncomfortable topics, especially when talking about relationships and sex. It's sad because I feel like you close yourself to characters when they do something bad in your eyes and I fear you're ending up missing out many emotional beats because of that. I know it's a kinda complex and long topic, probably unfit to be talked about in depth in a comment section, but I wanted to selfishly put this out since it's not the first time I felt like that.

menelito

Wow. I yapped A LOT in this one. Sorry, eheh.

Big Duval

About the opening, keep in mind it started showing before norn and aisha even came so it spoiled a lot.

Big Duval

Please watch all three trailers

Enjoyed your reactions to the series! It's fun to see people's different reactions to the "Roxy Affair." I do think Sylphie probably got used to thinking of poly relations as very normal, as she spent years hanging around with Paul, Zenith, and Lilia (including several years after Rudy left home). Of course, the same was true of Norn, and she had a different reaction, but then, she spent much of her formative time alone one parent, Paul, after the mana disaster. I get the feeling Norn may end up being a cleric or paladin ofMillis, much like (I guess?) Zenith seemingly was. I suppose Roxy is at least almost the exact *mental* age as Rudy (and this was also true when they first met, though of course neither knew that) if you count past life. Saya Aizawa was also really good as the lead in the recent Secrets of the Silent Witch. I've heard Norn is the LN author's favorite...

Morkt

Roxy's justification in the LNs is also strange, but in a completely different way. Im sure you can find the explanation if you look at the rest of the comments. lol

Richard Wild

At the very end, that was actually a season 3 announcement, right at the end of season 2.

DeliveryMat

Yeah this changes the entire situation quite a bit, I appreciate the break down!

Some Kinda Abomination

I think the craziest part of all of this that I never see anyone talking about. Sylphie admits if her and Roxy were in opposite positions, she would’ve done the same thing Roxy did for Rudy. Like damn bro.

Joke

The LN's give much more of Sylphie's inner feelings and although Rudy proclaims he will stay faithful to her, she never internalizes it and always believes he will end up with atleast another woman in his life anytime we hear her thoughts on the matter. She is jealous of Nanahoshi but says she would be fine with basically anyone besides her as long as they loved Rudy. She confesses the only reason she stayed silent and looked hurt when the conversation started is she was scared that Rudy was going to say he was abandoning them to start a life with Roxy. Once she was reassured he had no intention of leaving the family they already started she was fully on board.

Joke

I'm just trying to say while this definitely was cheating by definition and from our view, Sylphie didnt see it that way or feel slighted in the least by it. Rudy tells her he wants monogamy and to stay faithful to her, but the only thing she ever asks of him is not to disappear. Once she finds out hes not running away and keeping his word, shes perfectly happy with the outcome. The infidelity is never even an issue in her mind. So you were right, she is indeed an angel or a saint. Only needing what she had asked for, not what she was promised.

Espor

Btw just noticing. Norns VA is a genius.

Paul

Easy to forget, the OP started in episode 14. Some relatively easy stuff to notice the OP showed before it actually happened: -Norn and Aisha being with them at the house before Rudy even knows they're coming. -It implies Norn starts to get along with Rudy. -It shows Zenith and Roxy in the labyrinth. -It show Rudy and Elinalise fighting the Hydra with Paul's party. -And then It implies Paul's death and Sylphy's pregnancy. Tons spoiled if you even barely pay attention to it.
