Very weird episode, definitely drops us back into the heart of the "Magic World" story again. At 16:16, was that a plug for anime/manga Shakugan no Shana? (Well worth watching for classic Rie Kugimiya performance, plus the first supernatural action series to use the "domain expansion" or "bounded field" concept later popularized in JKK and Fate. (Also, the first season has a great ED sung by the same singer who performed Cruel Angel's Thesis...)

Most animes would do a beach episode, Index throws a whole beach arc at you!

Btw, the russian doll is called a Matrioshka and the funny thing is that it was Soviet premiers nested inside each other and they're in order Gorvachof, Breznev, Krushiev and Stalin

A fair number of anime - Black Clover, Evangelion, Aquarion, and a few others - also use the Kabbalistic tree of life as a symbol or story element.
