Elinalise basically asked Rudeus to regift one of the aphrodisiac bottles he got as a wedding present from Princess Ariel (who also gave Sylphie a vibrator)

In anime, everyone has a habit of using tropes and genres as a shorthand to quickly explain things. Which is fine, and I'll use those to explain my point, but obviously there's more nuance beyond that. In this format, you kind of have generally two options as an author/showrunner: (1) heavy battle shounen/action elements, with some slice of life, or (2) heavy slice of life elements, with some battle shounen/action elements. This is how you can create stakes and tell a larger than life story while keeping it grounded for the audience. Mushoku Tensei tends to fall into category 2. In some stories, option 1 works better, One Piece being a broad example. But if you go with option 2, as long as your characters are interesting and compelling, the stakes that come when the action starts are all the more captivating for the audience. Mushoku Tensei capitalizes on this very well, because from episode one, living seriously is what it's all about.

Good ol' Ariel, giving the best presents she can think of wanting herself. 😝

Well put. This series is about Rudeus's life in another world where he has some wild hurdles to deal with, some of which have to do with violence or tragedies.. It is nit an anime about him fighting and training and the living he fills the gaps with.

When Rudeus and the wives are shopping, I got so envious of harvest time revelry like what is affecting the marketplace. In Spice & Wolf, too, the harvest celebrations look awesome. I'd love to live somewhere with a culture of genuine pride and honouring of the seasons and the responsibilities associated with the different parts of the Wheel of the Year, rather than cold corporate capitalism to state at. Imagining drinking hit mead by that huge firepit and happening to see friends and neighbors that you last saw last week or even years ago. Being surrounded by excited people as the temperature starts dropping dropping I am a shameless slut for autumn!!!!

8:40 Seeing the husband and wife agree that they both want to get a gift for the other wife. So unbearably wholesome! I actually love how they handled the threesome. Left it as a joyous and simple lead-up and confirmation that they all went into such an intimate "team-building excerise" with enthusiasm and love. Also, as I was typing this, Mat says basically the same thing. Nicesu! If any anime polygamous relationship could be based on goodness, these three are it!

Roxy and Rudeus using the fishing trip to give Norn a real and organic opportunity to bond with Roxy, after Norn's first reaction to Roxy was less than pleasant, while taking the sister to enjoy themselves was a magnificent idea.

19:42 Gotta be honest...I teared up HARD multiple times to Zenith's activity. There's a fairly short list of "anime characters' tragedies/situations" that are weak spots for me. What's happened to Zenith is one of them. Ever since reading the novels, I've usually choked up when being reminded about her near-invalid state. So, seeing her precious daughters and family get to see her respond and touch them is a big damn deal.

23:00 It kinda sucks that the anime showed nothing of Lucie's lack of emotional reactions, or how much this freaked out Rudeus. I can't believe that the studio skipped out on showing Rudi speaking Japanese and English to her....just in case.
