I think you guys might have missed an important moment when Walter Jr is putting Walt to bed. Jr says the car drives great, to which Walt responds "That's good, Jesse." In that moment the line between his two "son" figures is blurred, as Walt is in a medicated haze of guilt and turmoil over the way he treated Jesse and the consequences of his actions. Walt was having a genuine moment of vulnerability with Jr, it wasn't an act.
