Hi everyone! This week we watched the newer movie you all voted on. We were both really blown away by how emotional this was. We thought it was going to be your everyday monster movie, but nope! It really got to us! I think I got all teary eyed at least 3 times and even cried once, which I don't usually do. This story was really beautiful, and we're super grateful you all voted for us to watch it!

The only Godzilla movie to win an Academy Award. Such a great movie!

Who could've predicted the best emotional drama in years would be a Godzilla movie?

Noah Vogt

I never expected a Godzilla movie to be this good and emotionally driven. It deserved every bit of praise heaped on it. I think if you got emotional watching this, Peter Jackson's 2005 remake of King Kong will have a similar effect if y'all watch it. It's another incredible monster movie with a lot of heart. The recent Godzilla movies are okay, but pale in comparison to this one.

Me and my partner have gone through maybe 6 or 7 Godzilla movies in the last few months for funzies. My understanding is that Godzilla is very much a metaphor for the devastation of Nuclear Weapons. Also I had to laugh when Chandra said, "Godzilla's kind of a jerk. He doesn't need to attack her train." Godzilla don't do trains. Watching those movies I learned Godzilla sees a train, he gon' get 'dat train.

Also I'll add...this is the best "kaiju" or Godzilla movie in decades. Have a ball watching the spectacle of other recent Godzilla movies. He smashes stuff and there's special effects, but there's not much for characters or acting or writing. The first Pacific Rim is pretty cool but for me you started with the best one. Maybe Cloverfield if you're okay with hand held shaky camera found footage stuff.

Hahaha okay, so trains are Godzilla's mortal enemy, got it.

So, I've seen this movie, 5 times in theater, 7 times streaming, 6 times on 4K blue ray, plus, 156 YouTube reactions, and, a few of those, multiple times. This is my most researched movie ever. Today, I just noticed / realized... Shikishima glances at the photo of Noriko in the plane before ejecting, and that photo, most likely the only print he had of her, burns away as the plane explodes. He didn't know, he was giving up the only photo he had of her, he didn't yet know. 😭😭😭 This film has layers of tragedy.

This week, I bought my tickets to the early access, Godzilla-Day, Nov 3rd screening of Godzilla Minus Zero in IMAX. (That's a mouthful!) But, I'm rewatching a load of reactions to G -1, looking for the rare new one to add to my list of 189 reactions to Godzilla Minus One. Anyhoo, this morning, I'm rewatching y'all's for about the 20th time, and I had a thought! Shikishima & Noriko are not that great at communicating with each other. We viewers tend to look at it like he's having PTSD, is full of shame, etc. but, who taught him how to "be a man" or taught her to be a woman? I mean, they got the basics from their parents, but they are each orphans, and, I just feel like no one pulled him aside and told him to put a ring on it, or whatever. And she obviously wants to marry him, but, "Imma get a job so you can find a wife" passive-aggressive stuff, seems like a petulant teenager, or, a woman trying to tell a man something without just saying it. Either a sign of the times, or, consequences of being a self-raised orphan. Just one more layer of tradegy in this heart wrenching movie 😭. I am shivering from excitement about the new on in just a few weeks! If I am very, very lucky, I might get a cool popcorn bucket before they sell out!!!

Oh wow, seeing that in IMAX is going to be incredible!! And it's so true about their communication skills. Storytelling like this says so much about the characters without even having to show us.
