OMG Two episodes today! What a treat! This episode in a nutshell: "Finally we get rid of the Nasty L... oh no wait! Here is her replacement!"

Nathan Jasper

"I will take what is mine with fire and blood." She promised way back. And honestly, it makes sense. Her father was the Mad King. Her brother was insane with power-greed in season 1. It was only a matter of time.

When you go back and rewatch the series you will see that Dany was really like this for the majority of the series. She threatens to burn every city she goes to. Kills so many people along the way. Only difference between then and now is she didn't have Jorah or Missandei to talk her off the ledge, the only people she truly trusted towards the end and the people she killed, they've always been the "Bad guys" so us the viewers didn't care as much. Add on to that like she said, she has no love here, she knows she would lose the throne to Jon if she didn't put fear into the people. When the bells tolled, I think at that point she was totally gone. She was going to take the deaths of her dragons, and friends and repay them 10 fold and destroy everyone in her path. Tough way for a beloved character to turn out but like I said on re-watch I noticed even more so how this turn wasn't so far fetched as a lot of people thought it was.

I think Varys's death made me even more angry than Littlefinger's death! I didn't think that was possible!! Daenerys's turn is odd, too. I can't put my finger on it. She's always met disrespect with violence, so that part makes sense. But to burn innocents, she must have slipped into a "Me vs. Everyone Else" mentality, and I just don't think they showed that happen... She's felt pretty alone before and not turned on the common people. She's been betrayed before (By Jorah!!) and hasn't projected that betrayal onto the common people. I think some puzzle pieces were missing from the writing this season. Maybe too few episodes?

Definitely not as far fetched as I believed. I was definitely watching the show looking to see if they set it up and you’re 100% on the money. The two people she trusted the most and usually talked her off the edge are gone. And with everything else Danny was going through, it’s definitely more set up than not.

"What do you do without Game of Thrones in your life?" - You re-watch the series alongside YouTube reactors 😉

Like I said before Jaime was so in love with Cersei and was referenced many times throughout the show.Jaime wasn't in love with Brienne, it isn't a Disney movie its how love works. Also his character arc wasn't ruined as there are many character arcs not just redemption arcs as a writer I can tell you that.It was far from a senseless death it was poetic actually.I have watched the series so many times I have lost count and I think you should to to pick up on these points.

Alexander Ocean

Haha I can’t count how many times I’ve rewatched this with new reactors!

She was literally going to burn down the entire city of Mereen civilians and all in season 6 but Tyrion talked her out of it. It's a cautionary tale she did some great things but the stronger she grew the more she started to see herself as this messiah figure and that's always dangerous

Yes, I think you're 100% right! More episodes would have helped a lot with showing her transition to "me vs everyone else".

Guy-on-Couch

the difference here is that the people under the rule of the current rulers turned against them, and helped her take whatever city it was...here in King's Landing, the people didn't do that. The flocked to the Red Keep for protection. Also Jorah spying on her isn't a good comparison to him dying, Missandei dying, the 2 dragons dying, Jon's secret, not getting the love she thinks she deserves. She isn't the same person as before, she is filled with Trauma.

When you put it that way, it totally makes sense. But I don't have to like it! Haha

What you said about rewatches in the intro is 100% true. They drop sooo many hints to things that you can’t possibly pick up on on first watch. For example season 1 episode 2 there are hints dropped about Jon’s real parentage that a first time viewer would not even know to look for. Highly recommend it!

MaplenutsReact

Oh what!? They drop hints of that that early in the series!!

Yeah before Jon goes to the wall, Ned says, “next time I see you, I’ll tell you all about your mother.” We know that as a member of the knights watch, you forsake all titles. So even though Jon was legitimate heir to the throne, he would be renouncing it. It’s the only thing to keep him safe, which is why Ned encourages him to go. Ned also hears of Robert’s wanting to kill Danaerys and says to ignore her. Basically Robert wants to wipe out each and every Targaryen. That is why the honorable Ned Stark, everyone talks about his honor, it makes no sense that he would have cheated on Catelyn. And when Robert asks Ned to tell him about Jon’s mother, Ned says he never will. He can’t risk anyone knowing Jon’s identity. It would be a death sentence for his nephew who he has raised as a son. Definitely watch the R+L=J videos, it shows clips of every scene in which Jon’s true parentage is hinted at. It’s incredible.

Bill B.

Also some scenes where it’s heavily implied that Littlefinger knows the truth about Jon’s parents, but he never actually says anything. Likely because multiple times when he is asked what his goal in life is, he says he wants to control everything, so it would make no sense for him to spill the beans on this secret.

Wow, this was always such a tough one to watch. I thought Daenerys going Mad Queen always tracked. Too much loss. She lost Drogo, she lost two of her dragons, she lost Jorah, she lost Missandei. Jorah had given her the advice to avoid some of her worst impulses several times, and he wasn't there to do it when she started to suspect John and Tyrion's motives. It was all too much for her.

Finally catching up to this. I always heard people complaining about season 8 and up till this point I thought it was as good as the rest of the seasons. This episode...Dany makes absolutely no sense. Just dumb decisions. Yes she may get the throne, but now everyone hates her, she will need to spend billions of dollars and decades to rebuild. Ugh... hate dumb tactical decisions. I get its what they were going for with the writing..its just frustrating. I dunno... Thanks for the reaction.
