Hi everyone! 😊Yaaaay! So many of you have recommended this movie, and now we all get to watch it together ❤️ This was so adorable and fun - one of the best family friendly movies I have ever seen. And those puppets!? OMG... I know they were only in the movie for a little bit, but they stole the show. I think I've got to start collecting weird little puppet guys for our background now haha

If you like this one, you should definitely check out Explorers with a young Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix.

Such a fun reaction! Interesting to hear you guys think that with some tweaks it could have been a horror movie. I think films pre-2000s were much better at making good movies that had young protagonists and weren’t afraid to at least hint at real stakes/danger …. Seems to me that most movies now which feature younger protagonists are little more than babysitting tools. And the majority of films in the past few decades seem to have suffered the consequences of major studios not willing to take many chances on original or offbeat stories for film (TV seems to be the medium for such material of late). The need to profit and rely on nostalgic properties or hot trends has for me, largely crippled newer movies in terms of having the staying power. I think this is exemplified by what films you see are in demand for reaction channels. Outside of Star Wars, the MCU, Tom Cruise, and Denis Villenueve films, it’s quite the rare thing to see an outcry for movie recommendations. It still happens … but it’s the exception and not the norm. Woof … sorry for the rant. I think I need breakfast. 🤣

Amen! It's not like the kids ever died, but if you have a minor in even a whiff of danger it gets rated for adults. And yeah, the studios are terrified of anything that isn't "safe", but I think it's of their own doing after a period of thinking everything is going to be the "next Star Wars" and dumping millions into things like John Carter, or Mortal Engines and hoping for a home run instead of actually building a franchise on demand and fan loyalty.

Good points … and great name! 😎

Haha always interested to hear what you have to say! And I totally agree - seems like older movies have a lot more creative ideas and risk taking compared to newer ones.

Great reaction, I loved this movie when I was a kid. I don't know if it is on your watch list but you should also watch Short Circuit 1 and 2, the second one wasn't as good as the first one but it was still a fun movie and you guys would like them.

It has been too long since I watched this! That original Walt Disney intro before the film and the soundtrack brought back wonderful memories. Think I still have a VHS of this somewhere lol. Some trivia: When in NASA Dr. Faraday makes David a test trying to explain what happened to him, in the monitors can be seen different texts in Phaelonian. Actually it's English language with the letters changed to symbols to create the Phaelon alien language. Chandra was right! It was Paul Reubens's idea to make the identity of the actor providing the voice of Max a mystery and he was credited as "Paul Mall". In the original script, David was to return back in time to 1978 and there meet and befriend a (much younger) Carolyn McAdams. Actress Keri Rogers, who played Jennifer Bradley, said she had originally been cast as the 12 year-old version of Carolyn, and wasn't notified until after arriving on set that the part had been written out. The character of Jennifer Bradley, whom Rogers would eventually play, was apparently hastily conceived by producers at the last minute in order to accommodate her.

Wow, I forgot how great this movie is. Excellent reaction, and I'm so happy you guys enjoyed it so much. Haha, I forgot all about the puppets too. Loved Chandra's reaction to them! A few movies that I think would make great follow-ups to this one because they're huge 80s classics, and because they have puppet work I know you two would highly appreciate: -The Dark Crystal -Labyrinth -The Neverending Story I think in the case of The Neverending Story, it's more animatronics than puppets, but I believe you'll have the same appreciation for them as you would if they were puppets. For that one, remember, Theatrical, not Director's. For the other two, some of what appears to be puppetry may actually be real people inside suits, but honestly, I can't even tell the difference for some of the...things, and in any case, both Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal are a puppet lover's dream. The Dark Crystal is an incredible film that I think you two would find particularly interesting because it has no human actors (or at least none you can see outright). It relies entirely on puppets and animatronics.

I mean that right there sounds like a great poll haha. I might have to steal it!

Go right ahead. I'm thrilled. What's interesting is that, while I think a competition between The Neverending Story and The Dark Crystal will be a tough choice on most channels (almost cruel lol), Labyrinth probably has no chance against them. I'm pretty sure it was hugely popular when it came out, but with modern audiences, and on a lot of reaction channels, it seems like it's become somewhat of a marmite film. People either love it, or they kind of hate it because it's too strange for them. I almost never recommend it. But here? With you two?? You two will fall in love with it. Here, Labyrinth will be right at home. If you do decide to do a poll with those three, I'll be very curious to see what happens.

I vaguely remember this movie from when I was a kid, but I would have only been about 7 when it came out. random fact: according to IMDB, the actor that played David (Joey Cramer) was arrested in 2016 by Mounties in British Columbia for robbing a bank.

One of the best 80s kids films. Short Circuit and especially Short Circuit 2 are great too so I hope you watch them some time.
