Hello there! We hope you're all having a wonderful weekend ❤️❤️❤️As promised, we're posting this poll winner much quicker than usual, and why the heck not on a Saturday... figured we'd try something new haha. And remember, Little Nut and Salted Nut tiers will also have it available to them! We also won't be putting up a YouTube edit right now, but that may change later on. This movie absolutely blew our minds... there's so much to love about it, I could go on for hours and hours about the scenery, the acting, costumes, EVERYTHING really! So thank you everyone who voted for us to watch it. And we can't wait to see more classics with you 😍

Imagine this movie in 1968 ... What a mind f*ck back in that time. Cold war raging ...Space program about to peak with the landing on the moon ... The sequels are a bit of a hit and miss but certainly worth the watch before tackling the reboot.

I first saw this movie as a child. It is one of my parent's favorite sci-fi movies from their youth. I remember being traumatised by the fate of the female starship crewmember back then^^ I have seen it several times since, and always with the same pleasure. Obviously I love the parallel done with animal condition vs humans

Ya, this one is a classic. Thanks for the video. I think the accent your thinking of is called Mid Atlantic. Very common in older movies to show an aura of sophistication and wealth. Apparently Mark Hamill used that same accent when he was doing the Joker for the Batman cartoons.

Excellent! Now, if you pivot over to the new apes series in the relatively near future, starting with "The Rise of the Planet of the Apes", there are a bunch of references and homages you'll be able to recognize.

Jerry Goldsmith who did the score for ALIEN did this score too. Both are tribal and minimalist in style.

Wade Wallenstein

I LOVE the classic Planet of the Apes films. You should definitely check out the other 4 to see how this timeline ends.

You can hear great examples of that mid-Atlantic accent in Hitchcock's "Rear Window" with Grace Kelly's dialogue and just about any Katharine Hepburn film.

Thanks, you two, for your reactions to this movie! I saw "Planet of the Apes" in the theater as a kid. I was horrified when I saw the first shot of the apes on horseback, even when I knew the title of the film. At the time, the film used state of the art prosthetics and I completely bought into the actors Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter as Cornelius and Dr. Zira as chimpanzee scientists. The actors did a lot with their eyes, limited facial expressions, and body language. Only a few years later did I see Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter in separate "Columbo" episodes on TV and recognized their voices right away. I re-watched "Planet of the Apes" maybe a year ago and found it amusing when in the later part of the film Taylor asks Cornelius, "Any weapons? Any guns?" Years after he made this movie, Charlton Heston served as president of the National Rifle Association!

In the context of this movie, instead of thinking that the apes did "evolve from men", it makes more sense to think that men went backward and the movie's apes evolved up from the apes that were already there.

oh they are going to love the new ones!

Thank you! I've loved this movie since I was a kid. I also love the next three sequels (although I'm in the minority) I would love for you to watch them before jumping into the new ones. I loved watching this with you!

Thomas Yanez

I'd prefer they at least watched "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" so that all of the references are fresh. Then they could go back and watch the old sequels, for better or worse.

Ohhh, I got so excited when this popped up, but I couldn't (and still can't) watch the whole reaction because of time. I will be back to watch it as soon as I can, but for now, I listened to your thoughts at the beginning and end, and just wanted to say a few things while the thoughts are fresh. I think when I talked about these movies before, I mentioned that it wasn't necessary to watch this original film in order to see the newer movies, but that there are homages to this film in the newer ones, so you'd get more out of the newer ones if you see this one first. Now that you have seen this one, you're good to watch the newer ones anytime, however, I think you two might enjoy some of the other older sequels. There is a point where they really go downhill and you should stop, but unfortunately, my memory is a little fuzzy on the other older films, so I can't tell you exactly where you should stop. If I had to guess, I'd say maybe watch the second, and then stop (or is it the third?), but someone who's more familiar with the older films please correct or confirm. Here is my suggestion regarding the first newer film, though. If you are going to watch any of the other older movies (whether all or only some). I would say watch the first of the newer movies, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, first while the memory of this one is still fresh before continuing with the older era movies. I say this because, as far as I remember, most of the callbacks in the newer films are to this film in particular, and Rise, the first newer film, only has callbacks to this one. You'd want to see Rise while those callbacks are still super fresh in your minds. Then, if you want to watch other older ones, either go back and watch the second, and maybe the third, then stop with the older ones all together, and go forward and watch Dawn and War, OR, watch all the older, then Dawn and War. Which one you choose will depend on how much you really want to see all the older ones. Honestly, though, if you wanted to, you could watch all the newer ones now, and they would still make complete sense. I hope I didn't just confuse you, haha. As far as Spaceballs goes. I'd suggest you watch that as soon as possible. If Jordan has seen it, he knows why I'm saying this.

Umm could you synch periodically during the broadcast so if we can't sit through an entire episode or movie, we can at least get back to your responses to what we are watching? Lots of full length content providers don't just synch at the beginning but offer other "short synch" opportunities periodically. I only say this because I very much enjoy your responses but for various reasons within and out of my control I can't stay synched from 3 2 1. Edit - Sorry and to clarify. Your counter counts down from the start, but my counter counts down from what's left so the numbers don't help., though I wish they did. Second edit - I appreciate that you got the importance of both the treatment of "animals" and the twist of them being back on Earth. It definitely sets the scene for the sequels.

Oh yes, that one has been on my list for a loooong time!!

MaplenutsReact

That must have been incredible seeing it on the big screen!

Its one of my favorite soundtracks.

If you liked Charlton Heston... "And the Lord said unto Hollywood, let there be a hero, granite of jaw and beefcake of physique, a figure of such upright strength that he shall rule over Great Epics and command Golden Statuettes. And he shall take a name that will signal his might over the mere Lemmons and Borgnines and Pecks of his time. And so, John Charles Carter of Evanston, Illinois, became Charlton Heston (1923-2008), the undisputed master of the historical and biblical sagas that were the blockbusters of the decade between the mid 50s and mid 60s." - By Rob Nixon, tcm.com... Ben-Hur (1959) and The Ten Commandments (1956 - also stars Yul Brynner).

I was a teen when this movie came out. The impact of the ending was shattering since we all worried about nuclear war slot. Building bomb shelters and having drills where we hid under our desks. It was a treat seeing you react to this. I have recently discovered your channel and am enjoying it immensely. You are a delightful couple.

MaplenutsReact

Aww thank you so much for watching with us!! ❤️❤️❤️ And yeah, seeing this movie when you were going through all that would have made it sooooo much scarier!

Excellent reaction. I first watched this movie 50+ years ago and love the way movie holds the mirror up for religious dark age, as I grew up subjected to fundamentalist religion.

Robert Durant

I really hope the two of you will begin watching the reboot series of films starting with "Rise" of the Planet of the Apes. Followed by "Dawn", "War", and "Kingdom". There is expected to be a fifth film in that series which hopefully will bridge those films with the original 1968 movie.
