So excited!!! I love the Saturday morning movies you've done, but this is my favorite. It's not the best acted or story wise, but the atmosphere, music, makeup, characters and effects are perfect to me. This feels like a D&D one shot story come to life, and we are Jack, the forest child main character with our party. Thanks so much for watching!

I love this movie so much, and I knew you both would love it too. Also glad you did the Theatrical version. Unlike with The Neverending Story, I forgot to warn you not to do the Director's Cut for Legend. The DC doesn't have the classic song by Tangerine Dream, but it's also missing the gorgeous score too. Now that you've seen The Neverending Story, try to imagine that without the music that you heard, including the iconic main song of the same title that played at the start and end of that movie, instead having only some forgettable generic music and no thematic song. It doesn't work for either film. Oh, and now I've got to recommend another classic 80's fantasy film, now that I know you loved this one - LADYHAWK. It would make for another great Saturday morning fantasy. I didn't mention that one along with The Neverending Story, Labyrinth, and The Dark Crystal because those I suggested for the puppetry and/or interesting beings, and Ladyhawk doesn't have those really. But I highly suggest a reaction to Ladyhawk because it's a perfect mix of classic 80's vibes, fantasy, and love story, all rolled up in a very touching and unique story. A story that I know is going to blow your minds when you see what it is. Oh! And since you liked the unicorns in this movie so much, I also suggest you react to THE LAST UNICORN. It's animated, but it's from the 80's. It's another movie that has some really weird aspects, but weird in a way I think you'll like, and it's a beautiful story that somehow always manages to be a little sad. And now, after seeing how much you love so many things about the 80's I am just dying for you to start Stranger Things. Man, you are going to lose your fracking minds.

This isn't the original 1985 theatrical cut. It's the (arguably inferior) US theatrical version released in 1986. I'm mentioning this because the US version is impossible to find in the UK, and therefore, sadly, I won't be able to watch along—and, as a warning to all my European brothers and sisters, do not try to rent or buy it from Apple or Amazon if you want to watch along with the reaction, because those are the original European cuts and you'll end up wasting your money... like I did... twice. :D Yet, I much prefer the original theatrical version with the Jerry Goldsmith score—Scott didn't like the Tangerine score, either. He also said of the US cut: "European audiences are more sophisticated. They accept preambles and subtleties, whereas the US goes for a much broader stroke. On MTV the younger generation, especially, watches sub-par montages all day long, which makes them impatient... Darkness' entrance may be moved up to stop the audience from getting restless. Structurally I prefer holding him back as in the European print." —Ridley Scott.

Thanks, I'll check it out 👍

Ha, you are correct, it is on Youtube—I have premium, so no ads :D I probably should have checked before :/

Man, the makeup and costume on Satan in this movie was soo good. That voice was perfect too.

Nicely done on your 80’s fantasy trek! I had a great time rewatching some childhood faves with y’all. I rec watching the other version just to see longer scenes that got cut from the US version. Also Lili is a princess in the original storyline. The crew literally built the forest on a soundstage and had the glitter ✨ everywhere on set. The behind the scenes are super impressive! I still think Tim Curry as Darkness is one of the best creature makeups in film, alongside the Predator. IMO you watched the top of the list for that genre but there are a few more that you’d probably enjoy: Secret of NIMH, Harry & the Hendersons, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Moonwalker (starring Michael Jackson) and Return to Oz; maybe Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja. 💖

I love this Saturday morning 80’s fantasy series, so much fun to rewatch these childhood favorites with you two. A couple recommendations if you make this an annual thing: Krull (1983) Dragonslayer (1981) Beastmaster (1982) Return to Oz (1985) Clash of the Titans (1981) Conan the Barbarian (1982) Princess Bride (1987) Last Unicorn (1982) Time Bandits (1981)

Yes, please watch all of these. They are all really good

Kayshinae

It's true; the original Clash of the Titans is still unbeat, and you will recognize some people!!! There is ZERO chemistry with the leads in the remakes, though of course the effects are mind-blowingly updated.

Don't forget these: Excalibur (1981) Ladyhawke (1985) Interesting fact that Charmed (1998) fans might remember. There was an episode (S3E2) that retold the Ladyhawke plot.

Garrick Smalley

Far another Tangerine Dream movie The Keep. it is horror with some more now well known actors. Scott Glenn, Gabriel Byrne, Ian McKellen and Jürgen Prochnow.

Jon Johns

I think the maplenuts are ready for the animated classic: "Heavy Metal" 😂

This is my fave fairy tale movie. Scott is just loading every single scene with so much magic, and so much detail. It's the supporting cast of pixies, dwarfs, faeries and even the goblins that do it for me. They all have so much personality (I adore Billy Barty as Screwball, whom also played the village wizard in Willow, and Annabelle Lanyon is magical as Oona). Have you looked at Tim Curry (Clue) who played Darkness ? He is not an imposing figure ! That, and all the other monsters was thanks to FX maestro Rob Bottin (The Thing). Also remember there was a unicorn in Blade Runner ?
