Happy Saturday Everyone! We're sad to leave the wasteland behind, but jumping back into a Bond definitely eases the pain! These movies are so much fun to watch, and Connery is in fine form here. I especially loved all the underwater sequences, and the jetpack! I can't believe we ended up with 2 jetpack sequences in one week!Hope you'll join us for Thunderball!

Let's be real ... The intro is 50% of the reason to watch this. The good ole times. Edit: And if you think this bond movie is wild ... oh boy.

Sam

I'm not a gambling man, but I was hoping for Batman Begins. And yet, realistically I knew, if I had to put money on it, the Saturday Surprise would be a Bond film—a film series I neither like nor understand why anyone else likes it :D

Excellent choice! This is many people's favorite Bond movie. I think it's number 5 for me of the classic Bond (those before the Craig story arc). I love "Dr No", "Goldfinger", "From Russia With Love", and "Live and Let Die" so this falls to fifth. That said I think it's a great Bond movie and would never argue with someone who ranked it higher. I'll watch with you and add any postscripts I think of along the way.

And yet ... here we are. A fair few of us reliving a childhood of going to the movies to watch these. If you don't get the appeal ... I feel sad for you.

Batman Begins will be coming out first week of July!

We've loved every one so far, so we're really excited to see the other ones you listed too!!

Great ears catching Tom Jones singing the theme song! The street celebration named is real, but the scene was staged by Eon. They hired around 600 local extras to put on a recreation of the festival just for the few minutes of screen time we saw. When you saw they could let the sharks into the swimming pool you said "Oh yea, that makes sense." I'm gonna have to call you on that. In what world does it make sense to have a swimming pool you use with an option to fill it with sharks? 😵‍💫😄

James M

The use of sharks in the film was very sad. Animal protection at that time was minimal for wild animals. The popular concept of our relationship to animals was also different. Almost no one would have been upset by the mistreatment of sharks in 1965. We are fortunate to have more protection for animals in films today and to have a stronger sense of our obligation to not harm animals.

Hans, I wasn't trying to be a prick. I feel sad for me, too, that I don't get Bond movies—I wish I did because the people who love them really love them. It's just that I don't like Bond movies and was also waiting for the Saturday Surprise movie hoping it wouldn't be a Bond movie—but it was. :D I say, fill your boots with the films you like. It was just unfortunate for me, on this occasion, that's all.

Oh I didn't think that at all ... It's just these were the best times for me. Going to the movies with my mother on Wednesday evening. My father at home with a case of beer and his football matches and the two of us out of the way. The candy, the movie, the experience ... and then on the way home after the movie stopping by a original fry shack for the packet of obligatory belgian fries with tartare sauce and a snack meat or two. That's what we all are here for (or many of us anyway) to relive that by watching others experience the movie for the first time.

Bond won't fight a shark here, but someone will very soon. Next up is my second favorite Sean Connery film after Goldfinger....You Only Live Twice!!

I'm really glad we treat film animals better now too. It's hard to see animals get hurt in these kinds of older movies.

Sorry I'm late to this one!!! A few notes: 1) there is a short repeating theme in this film that is dead-on copied in a Harry Potter movie! 2) I assume you'll eventually watch the Danial Craig 5 films? Maybe not. They are chock-full of call backs. I am exited to watch them with you, if you watch them 🤷‍♂️.

Although the two of you weren't even a thought back then, I was but a wee lad in those days, and I can tell you, SCUBA was a huge thing! It dominated movies & TV, it was featured in toys (I had a GI Joe with Scuba gear!) and it was everywhere for a few years. I guess the scuba equipment lobby was very active 😂

Jon Johns

The Harry Potter theme is "follow the spiders" from Chamber of Secrets" and the Bond theme is "finding the plane" from this film... You may have to search & seek to find the matching tunes 🤔😉

JORDAN, when you eventually watch Casino Royale (2006) I have to say, I read the book afterwards, and it is so good! Both the film & the book! It's a quick read, too, or an audiobook. I'm not sure if all the Bond books are good? But that one is 🔥🔥🔥

Jon Johns

It's so worth it. I'm too old, I saw most of them as they released. Connery was "my bond" forever, until Daniel Craig! His 5-film run is very controversial, though!!! With Bond films, there are numerous documentaries, and outside information, like a movie about the writer, Iam Flemming! Plus all the knock-off movies🤣 and parodies! (Austin powers!!)
