A Demogorgon being able to create a portal and come to the right side up is actually not new! If you remember in the first season, it came through the wall in Joyce's house, and it probably did the same thing in the shed, which is how Will originally got taken. It also made one in the tree after killing that dear, which is the one Nancy crawled through when she entered the upside down for the first time. Their portals are just slightly different because normally they start closing up not long after the Demogorgan uses them, so they aren't as powerful or as useful as a big gate.

A couple of thingies... Yes, that is definitely Linda Hamilton from the Terminator movies. If you noticed the frequency going up to 88db in the van when they were about to track Hopper, that of course was a nod to Back To The Future. Also, that book Holly was reading was "A Wrinkle In Time", a classic young adult sci-fi/fantasy novel that I read way back in grade school. I highly recommend it. Holly is talking to Mr. Whatsit, whom her parents seem to think is imaginary, and his name is reminiscent of three of the characters in the book. I won't say any more until the finale, if I remember this point. 😛

I absolutely love that in the opening flash back scene of tiny young Will they didnt do a digital face swap and used a real actor. I feel like the creators got sick of doing the face swap after season 4 since they did it so much with little Eleven, even though it looked good and worked. Excited for you to see the rest of the season!

In the 80s, it WAS a big deal coming out. Peoples' view of you changes and you'd be an "other" then. In a small town, you'd probably be a pariah/weirdo, but even in Chicago, in the 80s, you'd be ostracized and probably have to find new friends, if they didn't know already.. So, Robin definitely has to keep her life on the DL.
