Hi Everyone! This week we've got The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Theatrical 2001). Thanks again to all of you who voted for us to watch this. What an incredible experience! I hope you folks have as much fun watching this as we did. A few of you recommended we watch the extended edition, and as much as we wanted to, this time we had to watch the theatrical cut, for editing purposes. Honestly, I already want to watch this movie again though haha, so I'm really excited that there's still more content in the extended cut that we can watch in the future!     Lastly, we had to take a tiny break in the middle of the movie, but the timecode and everything lines up perfect :) Have a wonderful week everyone! ❤️❤️❤️

Can't wait to watch along 🍿

The day has arrived!! 😂 Can’t wait to rewatch this movie for the 1000th time, now with you both. Regarding the extended editions, I personally think the last 2 movies are critical to watch extended, as parts of the story won’t make sense with just the theatrical releases of those. But you have our Patreon family here to fill in the gaps if you watch all theatrical only. 😂❤️

sarCC

Yay! A perfect rainy day watch!

An evening well spent. “I made a promise, Mr Frodo. A promise. "Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee." And I don't mean to. I don't mean to.”

MaplenutsReact

I can hear him saying that line so clearly in my head now... Gets ya right in the feels ❤️

This is probably the best Fantasy trilogy ever made. The movies only get better from here. The Two Towers was a technical achievement we had not yet seen in animated CGI characters. I have all of the Extended Editions on DVD. Watching the love and care that went into this movie by Peter Jackson and his crew was inspiring. The Production Features are just as entertaining as the film itself (and just as long!). Given how much Jordan mentions his love of set designs, y'all should track down the Extended Edition DVD features.

MaplenutsReact

Oooo I hadn't even considered there would be Production Features! Okay, you've convinced us haha, I think we HAVE to go out and get the Extended Editions now.

Sir_Dalagad

How badly do you want to play a D&D session after watching this film? 😁

Sir_Dalagad

Oh yes please do the extended version on the next two movies. Watch half (2 hrs) at a time if they are too long to do at once. The extra footage is worth it. In the extended Fellowship of the Ring Sam mentions Bilbo's trolls when the reach them, but you spotted them without that help. Awesome

gobmob2000

You two are doing yourselves a disservice by watching the theatrical version, go on treat yourselves, watch the extended edition, don't worry about your movie calories, this is a 5 star Michelin film, its an experience, you deserve it.

MaplenutsReact

I had no idea the difference was so big, but so many of you have recommended the Extended Editions over the theatrical. It's really exciting knowing the extra content is so good!

Diiirk706

''Theatrical'' cut suuuuuucks🥱🥱🥱

MaplenutsReact

We're going to be watching the extended versions for the next two!

I know this is 8 months old, but I recently joined your patreon for game of thrones and happened to see that you reacted to lord of the rings. I almost didn't watch this because it's the theatrical cut, but I powered through it because I saw you watched the extended editions for the next 2 films. You guys were wonderful, but I can't believe how awful the theatrical cut is. It's probably been 20 years since i've seen it. I've seen the extended editions probably 100 times over the years. The amount of important and amazing scenes that were removed is just ridiculous. They completely gutted Galadriel's scenes, and my favorite scene of the movie isn't even in this. It was super frustrating but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I definitely enjoyed it when I first saw it in theaters, but the extended editions are so definitive now it's a huge step backwards to watch the theatrical. I haven't watched your next two reactions yet but will soon, and I just hope that when you do a rewatch of the series (if you haven't already) that you'll watch the extended edition of fellowship. Anyway it's now 3am and my birthday. Getting to watch lord of the rings again is always a good present. Looking forward to the rest.

MaplenutsReact

Happy Birthday!! Yeah, I'm so sorry we watched the Theatrical version... I really wish we had watched the extended cut, as everyone has said it has really important scenes. Next time we watch this movie, it'll definitely be the extended version :)

I know you gotta be tired of hearing comments about this not being the extended edition lol. But I just want to say that I've been wanting to watch these reactions for a while. I don't have the theatrical cuts, but I finally was able to watch it with a HBO sub. I will be honest, I was a bit disappointed at first, but it was fine, I'm glad I got to watch this and see your reactions. I used to not subscribe to patreon, and would only ever watch videos on YouTube, so having a cut like this is nothing in comparison to watching youtube cuts for me lol. (which I just can't do now outside of a couple to see if someone is worth subscribing to) It was fine, I enjoyed it, was just a little disappointed that you couldn't see such good scenes, but overall I had fun and it didn't ruin it for me. I truly hope you enjoy the extended edition. You'll have to tell us what you think! I'm also very glad that you chose the extended for the other two films. Really looking forward to watching your reactions! I also really love that you're into D&D. It's amazing that Tolkien pretty much started fantasy worlds like this. So many things from D&D and The Elder Scrolls have been inspired by his world he created. Although these films don't do everything accurately to his books, I truly feel they overall did it justice. They really needed to go all out for the story that has inspired so many. And they have. Tolkien's world holds a special place in my heart that cannot be broken.

MaplenutsReact

Aww I'm sorry!! We really regret not watching the extended version. We're excited it's something we still get to see now, but it sounds like pretty much everyone prefers the extended version. We just couldn't make the time then to do it, but now we make sure to watch the most loved versions!

Chryss Guiler

Incredible treatment of the trilogy. I can't wait to watch the next two with you! I read these books many years ago, and have read them again and again. When this first film came out, I was overwhelmed at what a good job Peter Jackson did. Sure, there were some little things changed or left out, but the essence of the story is there and beautifully told. It must have been the umpteenth time that I watched this one and realized Aragorn was putting on Boromir's vambraces there at the end. Wonderful.

Chryss Guiler

The theatrical cut is perfectly fine...it's what we saw in the theaters! And, having seen the movies there, imagine how enthralled we were with the extended versions! It was like having two birthdays, or two Christmases!

Wil Chavis

Imagine how much more you would have enjoyed it if you watched the extended version.

Dennis B

How about Dances With Wolves, the extended director's cut? It's only 236 minutes long... hehehe.

Jon Johns

Hey there, every December, I do a marathon of LOTR extended trilogy, and every other year, I watch the special features 🤣. Do you canucks have any annual end of year holiday movie tradition? (It doesn't have to be a Xmas movie!)
