They used to be a group called VCHA under JYP but they lost some members because of a lawsuit. Now they’ve rebranded with the remaining members and is now called GIRLSET. I personally love this new sound a lot better and I hope they stick with it

i don’t even think it’s a follow the leader type of thing with hybe when it comes to girlset though bc i know you saying in the comments you just going off of this current “debut” with girlset but they been had debut before dream academy even started as vcha like their program as a2k was going on at the same time the girls for dream academy was training before the dream academy program actually aired to the public. they just had a rebrand bc of stuff with other members that left if you wanna look into that so even though them as girlset came later they’ve also been a group before katseye

Meant to say.. yeah no, vcha def had the early twice cutesy vibe. But now that the two youngest members left (2007+2009) they're now girlset with a more mature vibe.

It matters because their youngest member was 13 when they originally debuted, so a more mature style wasn't really appropriate, hence the Disney style kiddy debut. It's not like JYP hasn't had mature girl groups, Miss A debuted with a mature style because it was more common at the time. I love HYBE, don't get me wrong, BTS is still my fave group, but the company likely wouldn't exist without JYPE since BSH worked there and JYP supported him while he created BigHit. A lot of us kpop fans wouldn't exist without JYP and that he tried to push west with Wonder Girls... if anything he was ahead of the entire kpop industry when Wonder Girls opened for Jonas Bros. It's w/e, though, JYP and BSH are still good friends to this day, to the point that BTS has heard songs from JYPE artists before release, and JHope's red headed back up dancer that signed with HYBE is dancing for Stray Kids current promos.

Also, while both are more mature groups, they've had this song prepared for over a year now when Katseye was still figuring themselves out (I still think they haven't really found their sound yet, either.) imo their style is very different because I want to like Katseye, but I'm not really into their songs so far. I can't get enough of Little Miss, though... it's honestly the type of song I was hoping Katseye would come out with 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, but A2K released first, honestly JYP and BSH probably at the very least hinted to each other what their plans were, you'd have to probably dig for the announcement of both the auditions for A2K and Dream Academy to see who technically was forming a global group first.

I just got a chance to go through reactions I've missed and noticed that no one seemed to give you any info on the girls. The one who started the song (that you noticed later in blue) is Lexi. She is the leader and the only one with a position. She is 21, from Wisconsin and she is Hmong (Southeast Asian Indigenous group). She did ballet for 12 years and was previously a member of a K-pop cover group. The second girl is Kendall. She's 19, from Texas, and is Vietnamese-American. She did ballet for 5 years plus jazz, theater, and lyrical. She attended a K-pop immersion in Korea. The third girl is Savanna (you said you liked her hair). She is 19 and the youngest. She is from Florida and is Venezuelan-Trinbagonian. She was training to be a professional gymnast for 7 years but had to quit due to injury. The fourth girl is Camilla. She is 20, from Canada and is Cuban. She speaks Spanish, French, and English and in 2016 competed on La Voix Junior, the French-Canadian version of The Voice Kids, and came in 3rd.
