Daenerys walked through the halls of Winterfell completely lost in thought, her mind wandering back to the conversation she just had with Sansa Stark. Of all people, she never would have imagined that the Lady of Winterfell would be the one to give her hope on a subject she had thought was closed forever. Her relationship with Jon's sister had been tense at first, and that was putting it mildly.
Daenerys wished it were like with Jon's little sister, whom she had bonded with very easily. Arya Stark was a very frank and funny girl in her own way. Very similar to Jon, perhaps that's why they got along so well from the beginning. But Sansa Stark was very different from both brothers, and not just in appearance.
From their first encounter, the tall redhead made it very clear that she distrusted her and her presence at Winterfell. Jon tried to be a bridge between the two women, but between her pride and the coldness of the Lady of Winterfell, it wasn't much help.
Jon tried to excuse his sister by saying that she had been through a lot and found it very difficult to trust anyone other than her family. Daenerys could respect that, but at least the fact that she had come to help her country and family, putting her dragons and armies at their disposal, should have made her give her a chance.
She was glad that things had worked out in the end. Daenerys knew how important Jon's family was to him and didn't want there to be any mistrust between them. She wouldn't say that they were now best friends or like “sisters,” but at least it was a start, and a good one at that. If there was one thing Daenerys sincerely felt for Sansa Stark, it was respect. It was hard to believe, but they had both gone through very similar challenges and horrors. They had both been innocent and naive girls who had been thrown into a world of monsters who took advantage of them and used them for their own selfish desires. They had both had to learn the hard way to survive on their own or die, and that made them stronger.
She was definitely not a bad candidate to bear her husband's children.
Daenerys snorted at the thought of those words; she couldn't believe she would ever think of such a thing.
But right now, she didn't want to think about Jon with other women, or her plan to restore her House to its former glory. Now she was focused on only one thing, and that was the possibility that she could have children again. Part of her wanted to run quickly to Kinvara and ask her about it and find out once and for all if there really was any hope for her. But the truth was, she was too scared to go alone. She needed Jon, so she went to look for him. Her first stop was the place where she had left him with Arya Stark, but all she found was a sleepy and very satisfied Arya who could barely murmur a few words before falling back asleep. It was clear that Jon had left, so her second stop was their chambers, hoping to find him there, but he was nowhere to be found. So, her last stop before running out of options was his solar, but strangely, before she could enter the room, she was stopped by the guards standing at the door.
“What are you doing?” she asked angrily, glaring at the northern guards who were standing in her way.
The men had the decency to appear nervous and hesitant, looking at each other, one said hesitantly.
“Forgive us, Your Grace, but the King gave us strict orders not to be disturbed by anyone.”
“I am the Queen and his wife, are you saying that I am a nuisance to the King?” she said furiously.
“No, of course not, Your Grace, but the King...” The guard tried to say, but he had no chance to finish his sentence under Daenerys' piercing gaze.
“Listen to me, if you don't move out of my way in the next two seconds, you're going to meet my dragon personally, understand?”
The soldier swallowed hard, but still hesitated to move. Seeing this, Daenerys' anger turned more to suspicion, staring at the door to Jon's solar, wondering what on earth he was doing in there to ask so emphatically that he not be disturbed. Turning her gaze back to the guard, she asked.
“Is he with someone in there?”
“Your Grace, we cannot...”
“Enough!” Daenerys shouted, tired of the situation. “Let me in this instant, I will not repeat myself again.”
With a final resigned glance, both guards stepped aside. Still angry, Daenerys gave them one last look before entering the room. Of all the possibilities she could have imagined finding in there, she could never have imagined what awaited her inside.
She did end up finding Jon there, but he wasn't alone. At his side was a beautiful, unfamiliar blonde woman, but that wasn't the most shocking thing. In her husband's arms was a small baby covered in furs. When he looked up at her, Jon quickly backed away from the blonde woman before speaking nervously.
“Dany?! What are you doing here? I wasn't expecting you.”
She looked at him strangely before asking him.
“Um... what's going on here?”
Val looked at the woman who had entered the room, and from her appearance and Jon's reaction, it wasn't hard to guess who she was.
So that's the mighty Dragon Queen.
