My Headcannon was always: The Digimon franchise is a mutli-verse and each digital world has different laws. Some digital words have reincarnation, so have permanent death. Likewise, the digimon of one universe can be fully sapient and autonomous while the digimon of another universe are completely feral and need "taming". But yeah, comparing Digimon to Pokémon is pointless imo UNLESS we are talking about gaming development. Cuz in that regard, Time Stranger has Pokémon on fraud watch

In a world where cockfighting is literally the only thing anyone ever thinks about there is a boy brave enough to leave home completely unsupervised at the age of 11 to set off on a perilous journey to capture and train dangerous beasts with the ability to control nature and destroy mountains with zero sense of urgency or concern. He only has one goal- to be the greatest cockfighter of them all despite actually being kind of bad at it. Will he ever succeed? Maybe once or twice in about 20 years despite somehow still being 11.

I think Digimon is at its strongest when they play to their origin gameplay loop. They do it better than anyone else, and it sets them apart from Pokemon. I just wonder why Pokemon themselves haven’t given the Digimon formula a chance themselves, aside from the fact they might not want their creatures to do things like poop
