I've been taking a break from website design - and was thinking to myself.. "I wonder if I can stuff Harvest Moon through OBR?"

So here we are.

If you know any artist who are interested in a paid commission to do the tile assets, I'm all ears also.

I've spent a few days on this one as a break from website design, but I told the subscriber channel that I would do an 'early beta' for the extension as I was working on it.

To be clear - I'm still working on it. OFTEN. I love farming games. I have a Harvest Moon tattoo. I plan on pushing the polish on this as far as I can go.

So here's what's going on so far:

EXTENSION LINK: https://harvest.battle-system.com/manifest.json

I would suggest making a brand new scene (while in this Beta phase). Double click the map and "Select as Farmland" - this will generate ruffage and set the default data. Add a token to the map and you'll see an option on there to "Select as Farmer".

Farmland Specific

Currently you're given some test data seeds when you 'Select as Farmland'. This is important, because you can't buy them yet.

Only one farming map per scene. All the data lives here. So if you delete the map.. RIP to that farm clearly.,

Only one watering hole will spawn.,

S&S obstructions are built into the ruffage (which is the black outlines you see), if you toggle fog-fill on/off, it'll make it so you can't walk through objects.,

Money, Lumber, Stone are 'per farm' and shared. So everyone has access to the same (Versus trying to trade someone two lumber so they can get something, when that happens.),

Farmer Specific

Only one farmer per player.,

Stamina/Water/Inventory are your own.,

Your farmer is your 'area of influence'. Basically all of your controls only work within 3 tiles of them.

Tool Specific

The grouping is hotkeyed to "H".,

The hand tool let's you pick up stuff off the ground (at the moment, this is just seed bags if you drop some).,

The shovel/hoe just tills land near you for planting.,

The watering can needs to be filled at the watering hole. You can see how much is left on the action window. It only works on tilled tiles.,

The hammer breaks stones/boulders. I didn't add the resource gathering part of that in yet. It also clears tilled ground.,

The axe breaks stumps. I didn't add the resource gathering part of that in yet.,

The scythe removes weeds. And maybe plants? I don't remember.,

The seed bag puts seeds on a tilled tile. You have to select a seed bag in your inventory first, though.,

All tools cost stamina. You get stamina back everytime time is progressed.,

Time Specific

Plant growth cycles are updated every day-end. It takes a bit! So be patient (it's like 5 seconds or something, but bigger farms take more time).,

There's an overall effect going to make the screen 'darker' as it heads into night time.,

Seasons don't change yet. This will be at the tail-end when it's just a content push.,

Whew, Okay. Now for what's left on my to-do list.

Harvesting plants.,

Shipping bin for selling plants.,

Seed vendor.,

Resource gathering (wood/stone) and continued ruffage spawning each day.,

Stuff to do with said resources. (Housing..?),

Rain!,

A way to get the tool upgrades.,

Crop death from lack of water,

Re-harvestable plants (corn, tomatoes, etc),

Sound effects? It's weird not hearing things.,

Fishing.,

Finding someone to actually do an art-pass. These are all open-gameart assets for the most part.

So now what? If you're interested in poking around at this, I just need to be aware of inconsistencies or bugs.I haven't done a multiplayer pass, which needs to address things where two people might try to influence the same function. (Time passing, tile data, etc). What else would you like to see? (WITHIN REASON)

This is mostly a fun project to take a break from website design and I love farming games. And while tons of those exist on Steam at this point - none of them could you slot directly in the middle of your campaign.

Me personally, once this is done, I plan on letting my player's get nice and settled before sending a goblin horde at their precious farm.
