A lot of on-the-go sketching in this update! I tried to make more of a point to take paper and a pen with me when I was walking Josie, so there's lots of her! I had to reinstall instagram on my phone for posting videos, but I've been trying my best not to go on it- hence pen and paper and sometimes taking a book to read while wandering (shes very slow)
It's quite sad relying on people using social media to find and enjoy my work, but also personally finding it really detrimental to be on it. I'm glad to have my sketchbook where I can be mostly free from the performance graphs and number values.

I got a tiny overbed adjustable table to go next to my other tiny table and ....there's still never enough space. I fill it immediately.

(I have a real computer desk upstairs but I like hanging out with my partner on the evenings which is when I sketch)

One of the problems with starting to do more scrapbooking in my sketchbook is that I get behind on sticking it in...and then I don't know how it's all going to lay out and where I might have room to draw...so I draw on more loose paper... repeat! I got overwhelmed this month and a lot of it was done on loose sheets!

I cut some flower illustrations out of an old mouldy book and turned them into assets - i figured they'd be good for things like censoring, or extra space fillers on promo posts. I also did some paper strips for labels and text boxes! They all suit my retro style and colours really well and making interesting visuals is always a challenge for me, I hate graphic design.

I made a process video for this one, and a few others on my instagram

Getting more comfortable with plein air again, the green one had some kind of wax resisting the water so I turned it into Josie when I got home (see the 2nd to last picture in the sb post). Which will absolutely make me cry when she's gone one day, she looks like a little spirit playing in the grass.

It's tricky to photograph when I'm drawing a sunny area from the shade!

Josie being glamorous as always, I've drawn her so much this month!

The woods are magical this time of year, everything is so green and fresh.

Nunnington village church, and a cafe nearby, its exciting to be able to sit outside again.

My friends hot boy zine made me dig out old teenage art, honestly I mostly drew sad emo girls, but I did find a few Hot Guys hahaha.

I made a little Cliff to go with Eugene! I used an Adou doll as a base and customised it, it's little face was so perfect for Cliff.

I have more doll photos on my doll tumblr, though I only update once in a blue moon

I love flowers in the grass when the sun has just set, they remind me of stars or fireflies, and I always want to stop and draw them, but of course...its fuckin' dark innit.

I hope you all have a good week!

I miss that part of Yorkshire. That area between York, North York Moors, Whitby, Helmsley, Pickering, etc. So gorgeous. I getcha. It does suck having to rely on social media for reach. Much as it has given you reach, it would be less of an issue if it didn't come with technofascists attached, haters, and the constant worrying about follower numbers. I can see why it would take some fun out of art. If it wasn't for the geographical distance, I'd be more inclined to check out any art you sell for buying, etc. but alas. For what it's worth, I'm glad you're on it Gorgeous pics and great art as always

GUINEA PIGS SPOTTED!!! an extra little treat for me. i love your plein air pieces, they're always to thoughtfully composed 💖 thank you for taking the time to put together another sketchbook update, i love them so much!

Ah those dolls are so adorable! I really love the physicality of these sketchbooks, the way you scrapbook things in and draw around them. It's so good to draw your cat a bunch, it's helped me a lot to have a bunch of drawings of my Poddles now that he's gone.

KnightSmudge

Seeing little glimpses into all of this really inspires me to go and explore my own town village in south UK. There's so many spots there that would be good for art... Absolutely ADORE your work as always, thank you for being an inspiration!

Cryptidcreature

As always i love seeing your sketchbook!

That small, angry blue Cliff is just so endearing to me for some reason, I love it a lot!

I love the sketchbook updates and also that you share that you struggle with social media too. Been feeling overwhelmed and consumed by it recently and might need to just do a quick cleanse from it so I can get back to sketching. As usual, I love your style and seeing how you create texture just by how your strokes line up with each other. :3

It's a great place, I love visiting the different tiny villages and seeing what their churches are like haha!

malacandrax

Omg is your picture a guinea pig 🤣? That's so cute. I love getting the chance to draw different animals - I felt like a kid being like can I come and see your guinea pigs please 🥺

malacandrax

Thank you! And yeah I think drawings capture something that photos can't ❤️

malacandrax

Always an advocate for exploring new places 🙌. Also thank you so much as always 🥰

malacandrax

Haha! I liked that one too, he's got such attitude

Digital Guinea Pig

it is!! my guinea pig speckles 💕 animals are so fun to draw, i love taking my sketchbook to the zoo

Yeah. I'm not religious but I do find churches nice and quaint things to visit, and walking around the graveyard reading the headstones. Cemeteries tend to be pretty peaceful places to wander through

malacandrax

Thanks so much! Yeah I often get sucked into the idea of making process videos because I'd like people to engage with my traditional work more, but it always sucks the fun out of it and if it doesn't do well it makes me feel bad 🙃. I hope you can get some distance!

malacandrax

Me too! It's such a challenge but it's good fun
