It's finally here! Solid first episode, nothing special but it's got me hooked in for sure. I can imagine the later mysteries are where this show gets all it's praise.

So first thing to start off in this is set in Tang dynasty China. Some things you might find crazy but explains her behaviour - 1. Its legal to sell one of your children in that era, especially to the palace. 2. With that being the case, even if she explains her situation, would the palace believe her? She might be a child bejng legally sold making up that story to get out of it. 3. The kidnappers ≠ the place she works. 4. So the 2 years thing means she was sold on a work term. Like she has a 2 year contract Now fun fact - mao means cat in Chinese. Hope you enjoy this show, its amazing. This is a hard show to explain stuff with as its all about the mysteries. So I feel like the only explanations should be about stuff to do with the era.

Tang dynasty was peak China too. basically 700-900 ad. Another fun fact - The LN was the top selling LN of last year with 1,350,000 sales. Second was Haikyu with around 800,000. Additionally, this is the first anime made by this studio - however, it has a gigantic budget behind it as its a subsidery of Toho Animation which normally produces all the big stuff. (Like JJK, Frieren, Mushoku Tensei, etc.) (The studio is called Toho Animation Studio)

There are actually multiple types of eunuchs, some only had their testicles removed but could keep the other part. It depends on the reason, partially. If the person was concerned about any contact from men, the castration would be more severe. But in other cases, it's mostly to prevent someone else impregnating the concubines . Also, I believe other factors come into play too. But that's simple enough.

Fun Fact the manga author was done for tax fraud

I know you mentioned it in the reaction, but you had me laughing at the fact that you forgot that Maomao was the only one who could read Jinshi's message.
