With everything that's been happening lately, this show is definitely becoming one of my all-time favorite anime. Also, that plan by Suirei to fake her death was an absolute stroke of genius.

I have been saving up my comments because I knew you were way ahead of me and most comments would be obsolete by the time you saw them. These are just a few that I think might still be issues after Season 2 Episode 1. I have a theory about what Jinshi does or doesn't know about himself. His official position is brother of the emperor. I don't think you picked up on that. Is he the emperor's son? Sure they theorize a lot about that, but I think even Jinshi isn't sure. I don't know what his relationship with Ah-Duo was, did he just think that maybe he was her son, but they never talked about it, or she didn't tell him anything? So it's just a guess or suspicion. He may have heard rumors, or deduced it by himself. I don't think any of us are sure, including most of the characters, although Luomen was punished for not noticing something, it seems. In the end, I think Jinshi doesn't want to be the emperor's son, because he'd be the heir, and there'd be a lot of doubters and turmoil if the story went public. I think he doesn't want any part of it, so he's hoping the whole problem will go away if only the emperor will have an "official" son. Remember near the beginning of the series, Jinshi said basically, there's a life he wants for himself. Also, if Jinshi is 19, and he's been taking that drug for 5 years...he's been taking it since he was 14. I don't know what that drug does, but it does appear he went through puberty. Also means he's been doing that job since he was 14. Yeesh. One thing. A lot of times they estimate time really broadly, Like 10-odd years ago. That could be off by as much as a few years. Add up all the times they did that, age estimates and what occurred "around the same time", might not actually be around the same time. I actually think the emperor himself is constrained by politics, like for example the former empress dowager or the minister who is one of her favorites, whose daughter is Loulan. Remember, too, the emperor's mother is the current empress dowager, and the former emperor's mother is the former empress dowager. It's the latter that's the scary one or the powerful one. Finally, didn't the incidents start before Lakan knew that Maomao was there in the palace? She may have arrived there before the incidents started, but it wasn't until that episode when Lakan heard the soldiers talk about Maomao that he started to learn she was in the palace. How long before he was sure? Didn't the incidents take some time to plan, too? And if Lakan was blackmailing Jinshi, then he did have a lever or coercion to get what he wanted, i.e, Maomao. Then why would he be working on a plan to kill Jinshi without trying the blackmail first? And why try blackmail if he already knew Jinshi would probably die? I don't know if you've corrected it by now, but please look up the pronunciation of "verdigris". Thank you.
