Nice, grats on being finished with the semester! What a way to jump back in to this with an hour long reaction lol, good stuff. Love the theorizing and such.

The show is so good that it's worth it.

The Japanese Buddhist monk's staff is called a shakujō or khakkhara (Sanskrit term). It's a wooden staff with a metal finial at the top, typically adorned with rings that jingle when the staff is moved. It is also used to ward off insects or animals. The shakujō is used to alert people of the monk's presence, especially during begging rituals where monks are expected to remain silent. Usually has 6 rings, 3 per side, associated with the 6 Realms of Existence and the 6 Perfections. Thought to originate from the Buddha's instructions to his followers, and is mentioned in Buddhist scriptures.

This had seemed like a fairly useless episode to me, but you saw so much in it. I saw the hints too, but underplayed them in my mind. First the hints about Shisui seemed to be the most important, but took up so little time in the episode. The lady holding the event almost seems to have a supernatural explanation, even to Maomao, but we all know that's not this show. Once they've convinced you of that, they turn the tables on you and imply that maybe she was a ghost. (Yet, right after that gathering, Maomao debunks one of the stories' supernatural explanation.) They make you pretty certain that it was the same organizer as in previous years, but how could she be? Didn’t anyone who would recognize her attend? What was her motive? I think it was generic revenge against the rear palace and its purpose. I just assume the "bad air" was carbon monoxide. ....... The final scene ...... it appeared Jinshi only drank a sip, or stopped before drinking it. It looks like he's thinking about drinking the drug or coming to a decision about it.
