I liked this Episode! The ending wasn't as bad as i thought it would be when i was warned about it early. Tho i did see it was a little bit more... scandalous? in the manga/LN as well i liked how it wasn't played off as a joke like you said. Ren is interested shes just not ready for all that yet so she is def not consenting and Mai needs to get a grip. I'm fine with this moment from Mai if it leads to her showing signs of growth in the future
