1. So, these episodes were a little creative to properly honor El condor pasa. Pasa didn't race at the Japanese derby because at that time it was against the rules for foreign horses to race in the "classics". It did change but they wanted to let her compete, which is cool. BUT .. her loss to suzuka is, irl, her first loss on japanese soil. So they let her tie special week to give Condor an honor without ruining the narrative of this race. 2. Nice nature was nicknamed the "bronze wonder" for finishing third a lot lol 3. Special week and Suzuka are actually tied together by a legendary jockey, who jockeyed special week right after suzuuka.

Fun fact: The pink ribbon that Gold Ship ties onto McQueens tail has a meaning in IRL horse stuff. They use different ribbons to mean different things though the mainly used one is a red ribbon, meaning the horse tends to kick. A pink ribbon however signifies that it's a mare that's in heat, hahaha.

It's not that female horses can't run in the Derby, they typically don't but Vodka is an exception she won the 2007 Derby. She was the first filly to win the Derby in 64 years. This isn't a spoiler, it's not shown in the series
