Just so you know, when we get to Ep 7, some of the visuals in the opening change.

Many of the racers at this school are also based on real horses oguri raced against. Belno light is actually based on Twin Bee. Which, even without approval issues, it's a copyrighted name from a videogame. So they give her the B's in her design. March is based on the real horse, March tosho. Her biggest competition in regionals.

don't worry i watch that kinda stuff, like when in season 2 the op changed for rice shower

that's very interesting how every horse here isn't just pulled from reality. this seemingly "beginning" arc has all original stuff in terms of development heading into what i would assume is that actual major parts of her career coming up. im guessing when this manga was started they couldn't get the rights to said horses right away, so kinda stand ins were used?

It might be harder in general to get regional horses for the same reason as international ones. They wouldn't fit the structure of the game. And I don't think they've ever licensed just for the anime. I think the closest was they actually tried to license montjeu for the anime and game, but couldn't do it in time for the anime (so we got Broye in s1). So you get "based on" stand ins. But they still represent that horse's career. I'd love to see them do a dream type spin-off, where they pursue international greats .

Regarding the lineup of Rudolf, C.B. and Maruzensky in the beggining, I feel like it is worth reminding that we have followed a lot of characters, but none of them were able to get the triple crown. Mr. C.B. was the 3rd horse to get it and Symboli Rudolf was the 4th, getting it the year after. Narita Brian and Orfevre (mentioned by Gold Ship) also got the triple crown. In total 8 horses have gotten the triple crown. Maruzensky participated in 8 races and was undefeated in all of them. Although Maruzensky was born and trained in Japan, their mother was imported while she was pregnant and so Maruzensky was labeled as an imported horse and prevented from participating in the major classical races. Due to how they won some of the races by several lengths, they got the nickname "Super Car".

tbh, if i was faced with such a cliffhanger and i knew the next episode was out i would've just started the next one lol

I'm finally back on the Patreon just in time for Oguri Peak!! Can't wait for more of this, Oguri is definitely my favorite Uma. She's such an adorable goober. This first cour of CinGray also has my favorite OP and ED of the whole series I think I've mentioned it before, but Oguri's insane food intake is based in reality. The real Oguri could easily eat an entire day's worth of food in one sitting, and would often be found eating weeds and his own bedding, even after scarfing down all of his regular food

Lot to love with Cinderella Grey. Oguri Cap is awesome like she’s been throughout the entire series. Kitahara Jones is my personal favorite trainer from the series. Being away from Tracen is refreshing and Kasamatsu has its own charm. I love how the style of everything is cheaper/worn down. The focus on regional races and dirt races are things we haven’t gotten before so it’s a nice change of pace. Along with the more emphasis on the tactics of racing such as the different running style on dirt is really interesting.

Again totally changed the approach to the show. After 3 seasons which pretty much covered a run in the game and a movie which focused so much on the drive to run we seem to get now a fairly anime usual approach. Not sure if I will like it but I can imagine this is much better to digest for someone outside of the game. Its basically your anime high school sport anime.

Old reaction, but for anyone curious: Tokai Teio's name stems from his dam (mother), Tokai Natural, whose pedigree goes back all the way to Tokai Queen in 1966, and 帝王 (Teio), as in "Monarch", which emulates Symboli Rudolf's famous nickname of 皇帝 (Koutei), meaning "Emperor". Horses with highly valuable pedigrees will almost never just be given the name of the region they're in, but instead a part of their sire/dam name, the name of their prestigious stable and/or a honorable title. Small fun fact: Teio was originally named Hamano Teio for the first couple years of his life, and only got changed to Tokai Teio at his debut.
