There has been a softening on things with idols in recent years, in Japan at least, though it's not perfect. Generally, you'll keep a large number of fans and even the ones who drop out are usually depressed more than angry. With the Internet and rumors, it's basically an open secret to the point people are just playing pretend. Idol vtubers groups have actually been a positive force. One, because of a anonymity. But secondly, because many talents have distanced themselves from romance or GFE(girlfriend experience). The biggest vtubers in Japan , idol vtubers even, openly play against that . It become more a case by case thing. A few years ago, a big idol vtuber was exposed but her company stuck by her until it was later found she broke NDA by sharing company secrets. But still, that statement if "not caring about the private lives of our talents" was influential. There are bad agencies and good ones, but it's trending upward I think.

i would honestly imagine that oshi no ko has had a genuine influence on the industry. as it brings to light to the negatives to many people blind to it

The situation I mentioned is interesting because she was dating a male utasite singer whose fans like to ship him with other men. And most of the hate came from them more than the idol crowd lol
