But Will killed so many monster he must have so many points he qualifies, at least 4444 for the main one. Or was the period already over to gain points?

There are a maximum number of points you can earn in each of the 3 main categories. Praxis (defeating monsters,) Spellcasting (Will only got 5 of those from Ed's test in season 1,) and Acedemics (I don't remember what the show calls this one.) Will got the maximum number for Praxis and almost all for Acedemics except the last 6 which Ed cheated him out of in episode 1 of this season. So he was short 1 point to ascend the tower (but still had enough to graduate)
