I don’t think Will has magic power of it’s own: I think the difference they were trying to make is that Julius wanted Will to absorb magic and keep wis activated for life, with a 1% constant output so that it wouldn’t run out in 1 fight, while what he actually can do is absorb magic, store it inside him and activate, deactivate and reactivate wis at will on his own. I think what happened in the flashback is that Will was full of Elfie’s magic because he’d been eating her ice candies for years and in that moment he activated wis with that stored magic power.

From what I gathered, Will is constantly absorbing magic from around him into his body, but currently can't expel it, no matter how much of a burden it puts on his body (which may also have something to do with his strength and endurance although idk which is causing which.) When he does release that magic though, that is the 5th element and the power he used in his fight against the Devander, before the Elfie power-up. It seems to be just basic magic that doesn't allow for spells, he needs other's magic for to use other elements and spells it seems. Will now remembers the first time he awakened this power, he remember what it feels like to use said magic from his body. If you notice only one of his eyes was blue in the memory, I assume that is to represent he's using half his magic and half Elfie's, the white light also pours out of him before he's charged with her magic. So now that he remembers what it feels like, he has a better understanding of it, and can probably recreate it with some trial and error. Maybe the memories Cauldron changed was the feeling of using said magic, so only now does he know what it feels like. It also probably has some connection to the first episode of this season and the question Ed gave him, the show might tie back into that and say "now he could do Ed's exam" or something like that. Although that's just my two cents on it all.

His body, I think, is constantly absorbing magic just in general. When he activates it on his own, you get base "5th element" Wis. When he activates it using another's spell, his eyes change and you get "*Insert spell name here* Wis" which allows him to use other elements and spells using the original spell as a base. In the flashback only one of his eyes was blue, so he was using half Elfie's magic and half "his" from within.

Ah, so when his air turned white and he was running trough the city leaving a white trail behind him that was “pure 5th element wis”, coming from the magic he naturally stores up, and then when he absorbed Elfie’s magic his eyes turned blue and the magic changed to Albis wis, right?

Also, even if it turns out that Will does have his own magic that he can activate on its own he still wouldn’t be a normal mage, since he can’t use a wand to cast spells like all the others.
