I truly don't think the one possesing Subaru was Gluttony. The speaking pattern was completely off, and Gluttony isn't a manager of the tower, so he wouldn't say "asking that is against the rules." and kill Meili. He would never let such tasty person memories go to waste. Flugel would though. The ability also fits differently than Gluttony's. Flugel created the Book of the Dead using people's memories, so maybe his version of the power doesn't steal memories but emotions instead. The Meili scene is what sold me. She came back to the library to kill Subaru but was clearly hesitating. Then "Subaru" touched her hair, said he'd remember her feelings, and she immediately looked relieved, like all her fear just vanished thus giving her the courage to push Subaru down the stairs. Flugel likely wanted a way to traumatize amnesia Subaru and used her.Also since he is the book of the dead maker, it make sense how he would perfectly know meili, he likely has access to the memories of all peoples thus making him the sage that can see and foresee everything... sheesh i am rambling My read is that this is an individual trial to Subaru with the theme "who are you?" which would explain the rules comment, and would obviously hit Subaru hard specifically. I still think Gluttony is definitely present too, but Flugel is probably pulling strings and using them and the situation for his own agenda. The opening already showed us the Hero and the Dragon. The Sage had to show up at some point. And in the cut content from Reid's episode, when Reid seemed confused about where he was, he immediately started talking to himself as if talking with someone in his head. I think Flugel was already there explaining things to him. Given how Flugel has been described all throughout the season, him being creepy, nasty and manipulative individual isn't surprising at all. AH, also what consolidate even more that it is a trial is his second death after loosing his memories, just before diyng, he hears "Who are you ?" in his own voice just like the other trials would say the rule before the test ! Also the convenience of finding relevant books that they could read easily cannot be explained otherwise. Statistically speaking it is impossible without the involvement of someone.

I want to say that some parts sound actually plausible, but most of that doesn't add up sadly. I would write and respond to everything but that would be an entire essay lol. To be fair she herself said she doesn’t want to be found by „Mother“ & herself insisted by staying in the cellar of the new Roswaal mansion until now It’s actually so messed up Gluttony used everything Subaru probably had in his head in regards to her but it’s so warped, twisted & off putting but Meili is so desperate to actually fulfill her own desires just this once in this case finding Elsa’s book she doesn’t even really seem to notice anything clearly being wrong with Subaru Betelgeuse was described as „Evil Spirit“ that’s hopping bodies with compatible vessels I know Meili is just a child but it’s kinda hilarious Gluttony acted in the most off putting way possible in Subaru‘s body and she just went „oh yeah, classic Subaru“ 😭 She really has no experience with people Ding Ding, again lack of context that it’s gluttony or who gluttony even are is making everything 10 times worse than it already was Again Meili, maybe you shouldn’t have followed the guy acting like this after you asked that question but again all she interacted with most of her life were complete psychos Also interesting from the wording when they choke her it seems to confirm Gluttony has made it their mission to crate this fun murder mystery of „Natsuki Subaru“ for whatever reason that might be And she’s been raised to be an assassin and to kill so her first instinct to solve the Subaru problem is to get rid of him instead of investigating or confirming what is/was happening with Subaru Maybe even another potential person to imitate. Would be interesting if they spent more time together if we’d see any Subaruisms coming through in her personality while she also develops into her own. Welp for that to happen she’d actually have to be alive which we don’t know will be the case form this Episode Presumably Elsa yes since she said she wants to understand what she’s feeling now that she’s gone her being the only person she ever had a true genuine connection with. It was brief but even Elsa telling her not do do everything as „Mother“ / Capella says since she can’t throw her life away the way she does since we know Elsa more or less is unkillable. That also makes the Sister dynamic Elsa played into during the „sibling“ battle at the end of Season 2 at Roswaals mansion seem like something she genuinely believed in seeing herself as something like Meilis older sister There’s interesting Season 2 break times for that too where Meili reacts to seeing Elsa dead and them hanging out at their hideout getting ready to head towards the mansion / talking in a dead loop about how Elsa didn’t like the expression of Subaru in his eyes. Still highly recommend to check them out during the cour break maybe even in a video. Only half of Season 1 has break times then 2, 3 & 4 have them for every corresponding Episode Idk if the subs pointed it out but he used the female pronoun when he woke up because who was speaking when he woke up was basically Meili asking if she’s actually still alive since he just explained everything as his own and starting with the memory loss has very little sense of himself just crashing out about who he actually is beginning of the episode so it was easy for his consciousness to be partly overwritten by Meili Also Newbaru probably was NOT expecting that the books of the dead function in this way. Even the complete Subaru was struggling after Typhons book Oh you brought that up too. My goat! Yeah Capella did this to mind break her and make her an obedient pawn & Newbaru went through that just now as well which weakened his mental state even more even though we’ve been way past rock bottom for a good while now 😭🥀 The discord already explained it but Elsa was like Garfiel‘s insecurities & imposter syndrome. Here it’s more lie Meili‘s soul also fighting for control in Subaru now and is tormenting him for what he did to her & Newbaru knows all the in and outs of Meili now while Garf just had that one impression at the Mansion of her Visually it’s also a bit differently with the colors going into almost negative when Elsa appears to Garf signaling it’s more of a ethereal mind space he slips into while for Subaru Meili is just there jump scaring him every 2.5 seconds lmao [Edit: & YOU LOL] I did tell you in Episode 7 but someone else might’ve said something else 😭 That’s why it’s so urgent, Eridna explained it at the campfire she’s using her of as a Medium to overwrite her consciousness but it’s like a slow burn while firing the Jiwaal is basically like draining an entire life bar worth of Mana That Capella smile by mind Meili though No Betty mention? Unsubscribed 🗣️ Only time was when they first got introduced saying „Subaru, I mean Barusu“ but never his actual full name Great extra segment too, that’s pretty much it Not dissimilar to you i thought I wouldn’t have a crazy amount to say yet here we are 🗿

If it's well adapted, which I'm very sure it is going to be, EVERY episode after this is just going to be straight up peak. Would definitely go as far as saying that Ep 11 and most of Cour 2 is going to be way better than Cour 1, even despite Cour 1 being already like a 9/10 which is insane lmao
