I think you misunderstood what was happening with Rui: the reason she was desperate wasn’t because her plan to separate the two Subarus failed, but because she succeeded in obtaining the memories of all the deaths and it broke her, she couldn’t handle experiencing all those deaths. When Rui meets Subaru for the first time we see she splits herself in two, after that, one of the two enters Subaru’s body, both in order to possess him and make him do bad stuff, and because she wanted to experience firsthand what dying feels like. The Rui screaming is the Rui that was inside Subaru, that experienced his deaths with him and lost her mind, while the other one was waiting in the corridor to merge with her other self and get those memories too. That’s why she says “this wasn’t the plan, are you trying to hoard those memories for yourself?” Not understanding that the reason the other Rui is acting like that and keeps repeating “we don’t want to die” is because she is deeply traumatized. That’s also why she calls Subaru a monster, because he is still “fine” after going through that while she is broken.

We do see that very first death in detail in the anime, it’s not shown just in flashes when he’s on Earth.

It’s insane how Tappei made us feel endeared to Newbaru in just 8 Episodes to the point where it’s actually sad to see him leave and merge with our Subaru I think anyone who can relate to self loathing & has low self esteem can relate to Newbaru & what he feels towards his older self that seemingly was some kind of super human but he actually also just struggled & stumbled his way through the story which is why we love Subaru so much. Really hit when he finally showed “himself” some well deserved love & respect 2:10 Someone used the analogy of flipping over a chess board before even starting to play in the first place last Episode & I think it’s really fitting 2:35 I wonder if they could still read Subarus book since just the title is in Japanese but the content of book is just memories 5:15 you’re correct buuuut when Reid appeared when Subaru broke out out the ice cage after answering one question he also flat out refused to give and more answers and flicked Subaru on the head so he would’ve have gotten that far with it. an unthinkable present also, i don't quite think we can rule out the multiple universes just yet as if you think about it, if it can't pull peoples deaths from other timelines then subarus death from that timeline shouldn't be in a book in this one if meilis isn't as it would seem odd for it to add a book for only one person from a timeline, and if it's all 1 timeline then it would also be weird how it only pulls subarus deaths from the other possible paths but not the deaths of others as those deaths should also be part of the single timeline like subarus even if those deaths get rewrote just as subarus deaths get rewrote. also the last book subaru opened was the book for the loop that rui ate subaru as that counted as a death just not a reset death.

Yep. Since Rui has skills from 100's (1000's? I forget) of people it's not a stretch to assume that perfect clone-jutsu she did was one of em and Subaru got a partial Reid treatment where he was in control mostly except when Rui was. Which I don't think lasted beyond Meili's murder so the trauma was quick for Rui clone.

Apparently, Rui got kind of butchered here. I'm hoping it got moved to next episode so I'm waiting to see what the details are. But apparently she has an interesting backstory. But yeah, someone else mentioned it but it seems Rui split from herself to essentially control Subaru but while piggybacking him... She experienced the horrors of RBD and it broke her. So the original Rui comes bx k like ",hey, where's those sweet memories?" But now Rui is having the identity crisis amnesia Subaru had.

Really great episode, but as a novel reader it was honestly kinda underwhelming. They didn't include a dialogue from Amnesiabaru which hit pretty hard while reading, but besides that, Rui should get more to her character in the next episode hopefully or somehow in the last two since she's way more of a character than just "that". What I will say though, the voice acting and osts were very good as expected. The part where Amnesiabaru listed "Subaru Natsuki" saving all the people and helping them out really did something to me and was my favorite part of the episode. The dialogue or monologue (? since it's two Subaru's lmao) I mentioned at the beginning was at the end of that, but even though it got left out it's still my favorite. The last three episodes are going to be really great as well, sad that it's finishing so soon.
