I could be wrong but I think what Hayama feels inferior to Hachiman about is his relationship with Yukino.

That would be interesting, if that's the case it might throw some of my theories out the window lol

I honestly think you are more on the correct side of the "why Hayama feels inferior" with your theory in the video bluest than just the relationship with Yukino, but again we never know for sure, maybe it's all of those reasons together

Your intense dislike of Orimoto is really strange. "Tormented" Hikigaya? Where? All she did was not pay a lot of attention to him. She wasn't intentionally tearing into him. She was just making joke that were, in her mind, harmless fun and didn't really pay attention as to how he felt about them. That was the entire point of the parallel about hurting people, and caring that you hurt them if they are important to you and not really caring (but also not not caring) when you are indifferent to the other person. All Orimoto ever was in the past was indifferent. He treated Hachiman like she treated everyone she wasn't friends with.

C'mon now, the ENTIRE "date" with Hayama and the other girl back in episode 5 she dunked on Hikigaya at LITERALLY every chance she got so she could look "better" for Hayama. Every single word he said or action he took she made fun of him. I despise people who make fun of others so they can "seem better" in the eyes of another. Am I wrong about their past together? Maybe, I might've gotten some details wrong there or whatever. But nothing is going to change my mind about the way the she acted that night. It got so bad Hayama literally stood up FOR Hikigaya and told them that he hated what they were doing. That is more or less where my hatred for her stems from. Watching it back you're correct I am wrong about their past together. So saying she tormented him was wrong. But I absolutely have reason to dislike her.

She wasn't dunking on him. at least not intentionally. she was making, what she perceived to be innocent jokes without noticing how they may have come across to him because she was indifferent to him. Part of the point of Hachiman's talk with Hiratsuka in 2x8 was that, if you don't care about someone (being indifferent/neutral) towards someone, you won't really care whether what you say hurts someone or not. Really, all she ever did was talk about Hachiman in middle school (reminicing. She thought he was funny, not in the "it's fun to make fun of you" but "genuinely funny in a weird sort of way") and then laughed about his choice for restaurant (Saize really was a dumb choice but so she may have thought he was joking). Was she behaving shittily? Yes, definitely. But she wasn't doing it out of malice but simply out of ignorance, as evidenced by the fact that, once she was made aware of her behavior by Hayama, she stopped doing it and genuinely tried to build raport (even if she wasn't really good at it because she just doesn't get Hachiman as a person). Also, Hayama didn't stand up to her spontaneously because it "went bad". He had the whole thing planned from the beginning. Why do you think he would have been so desprate to have Hachiman there with him. He couldn't have known how bad the day would end up. All he really did was trying to make himself feel better about how he didn't help yukino when she had a hard time by helping hachiman instead and to make himself look good in front Yukino and Haruno (that's what he meant when he said he wanted to get something back that he lost). You really should listen to Hayama when he says he isn't really that great of a person, because those moments where he is alone with Hachiman are some of the very few times where he is being his genuine self. Even in this episode we see what a dick he can be. Hachiman already pointed out how Hayama is using Yumiko to keep other girls away from himself. Then, at the end of the episode, he uses her again to dispell the rumor about Yukino, giving Yumiko more hope, knowing full well that she likes him and he as absolutely no intention of reciprocating.

Yeah like I said in this reaction there's a lot to Hayama I don't fully understand yet/haven't understood as I've been watching. A lot of this stuff is EXTREMELY difficult to catch on first watch. So I appreciate you explaining that a little more thoroughly. Hayama talks very vaguely so I know I've been off the mark with a lot of my assumptions about him. So thank you for that. However, getting back to Orimoto. I get that because she's indifferent to him it means she might've not realized how she was being rude. But that doesn't suddenly mean it was ok for her to be that way at all. In my opinion being completely oblivious to the fact that statements/jokes you're making are hurting another person only makes it worse. That ignorance means you're socially incapable of realizing that you're being rude in that situation. Indifferent or not, being an asshole is still being an asshole even if you don't care about them enough to realize it. I think that the fact that she doesn't care about him so much and is so indifferent to hurting him really makes me dislike her more. EVEN if she tries to build rapport later on the damage was already done for me. Hikigaya might forgive her for her bad attempts at making up with him. But I just can't forgive her that easily. Like I said in one my earlier episodes, MAYBE eventually I'll begin to like her more, but as of right now it's just not happening.

I agree with your opinion on Orimoto. The fact that she's ignorant to hurting him with the constant insults is what makes it so infuriating. Writing it off as "stupid jokes" and "not realising they were being rude" just straight up reminds me of a how a bully would justify themselves if they were being called out. The girls were actively treating him as a lauhging stock, that's literally all he was there for. Their past, present or future relationship and how she felt about what she was doing don't really matter in terms of my reasoning for why I dislike her, I would say even IF they were close there's some point where it still becomes toxically abusive. Being made into a clown in a social environment like that isn't okay, no matter how close of a relationship there is. Now all she does is continue to not understand how to interact with this guy and really just be annoying and irritating. Hikigaya's still bothered by the way she keeps saying the things he says are "hilarious" when he clearly doesn't intend them to be and it's things that he actually cares about. (From my understanding her constant laughing and calling shit hilarious is kind of just her personality and you could use that to defend her but to me personally it just makes her more irritating to watch, like girl take a hint, there's times when laughing is obviously not the right response)
