This isn't a game, this is an experience and I love it!

This was so much fun to watch. It allowed me to enjoy the cinematic qualities that the game brings to the forefront and then immediately kill me with jump scares galore. Fastest couple of hours ever and my goodness, this was like watching a movie and I'm in love with it. Even the troupe parts which I found hilarious.

I can't wait for Part 2 of this.

I've always liked this game for taking its mechanics seriously and actually making choices matter - so many games that claim to do this just don't. I enjoy some of the good old horror tropes and the ambience of the setting, but the dialogue and the fact that none of the characters are really that likeable makes it hard to care whether they live or die tbh 😅 I do think the studio has gotten gradually better about that with the Dark Pictures anthology games though.

You should react to P.T. game demo from 2014, its a cancelled game but the demo was brilliant, its a one session video, I really really recommend it

I personally did not like this game and Detroit Become Human, but that almost entirely came down to the writing. This one felt like a typical mid 2010's low budget slasher, and Detroit was a David Cage game so that has it's own nightmare of writing, obvious plot and weirdly sexualized, short haired women. David Cage is a whole deep dive in himself, especially his first game, Omikron: the Nomad Soul. It somehow had David Bowie in it, sort of.

the psychiatrist sections actually change the horror elements. whatever you choose as the thing you're more afraid of is the thing that appears in the game (for the most part)

oh also on the pricing, this originally released for $20. all the sequels were also cheap, but for some reason the remaster of this game on PC (which is actually worse) is $60 lol

I'm a massive wimp when it comes to horror so I always appreciate watching it with other people. Still gives me the heebie jeebies though haha

Glad you liked the game so far and I hope you enjoy the rest of it I feel like no other game or developer has been able to replicate this formula, and this is a 10 year old game so far, not even the same developer who made this game Happy Spootkober and more jumpscares are on the way, believe me 😂

Hey Kai , I noticed something — is it just me, or does the gameplay footage (not the face cam) stutter a bit It seems like the frame rate drops randomly throughout the video like (like every 2 to 3 sec) I’ve noticed this also in your last two Elden Ring reaction videos. At first, I thought it was my monitor, but I think it might be in the upload it'self. love the videos mate

The audio is fine all your others videos are fine but maybe it's just my monitor when playing videos in 4k

What I think people love about the game is that in a lot of ways is a slasher/survival movie with teenagers, but the difference is that now you have the control. In those movies is typical that someone says "its so dumb going there" or "they should have done that from the start". And here you are the one controlling what the characters do or not, so its up to you whether they live or die. And as you saw in this episode, sometimes not doing anything could be the right call, and for a gamer its hard not to try doing something. After this, you should watch Man of Medan, that also has a similar idea but with some twists

To answer your question at the end Kai, I love these types of games, although "interactive movie" is also an apt label. As someone who loves cinema and also videogames, stuff like Until Dawn is great because it's an imaginative blending of two different mediums (games, movies). I feel that as the graphics of games have advanced further in the last decade, stuff like this has become more viable due to the sheer detail that wasn't possible in the past. Some people just play multi-player games like Call of duty, but I absolutely love games as a medium for story telling. I could talk for days about the pros (and cons) that the medium of video games offers for storytelling compared to traditional movies. Anyways, glad to see you seem to be enjoying this so far. I'd love to see you cover other similar games in the future such as The Quarry (made by the same devs as until dawn, it came out in 2023). It wasn't as good as until dawn but it was still worth the time in my opinion
