1/2 Part one has arrived and hitting as hard as I've ever seen an MK game hit.

This has taken everything I loved from MK9 and amped it up to the next level. To a next generation perhaps!!

See what I did there?

I did not expect a next generation story and I'm not going to lie, I really enjoyed it!! I still prefer my legacy characters if I'm being honest but this was a great way to add something fresh all whilst using a legacy villain! I've always liked Shinnok in a weird way. Maybe my fondness for MK Gold on my Dreamcast. That controller was absolutely shit though 😂. Anyone remember that console or better yet, had one? I'll never forget that wind tunnel of a gap on it.

Anyways, back to MK. This is a brave move I think for NetherRealm Studios which I mention at the end and go into more detail.

Interesting enough though, I mention something very early on in this video, during the Shinnok fight. In this part I loved it but... In part two, I changed my mind and I believe becomes a thorn in the side of this campaign. I really hope it gets addressed in the MK11 story but we'll see. I wonder if you can guess what I'm talking about...? We'll see.

That last comment doesn't mean I dislike this game, far from it. Just an observation, a KZ nugget for an MK game.

I hope you enjoy this video because it some spots, it made me crack up.

P.S. Thanks to a community member, this video I can actually see the fatalities in the campaign. Gawd bless you kind sir 🙏🏻. YouTube viewers get to only see my face so Patreon Dojo, you're in the best place! Respect 💪🏻

X was a weird one, because as much as I liked it I missed the older characters during the story instead of the new ones. Funnily enough, so did everyone else given how most of the new gen disappear in the next game (except Cassie Cage who remains a key figure)

Maybe you should start putting "all Kutscenes" instead of "all Cutscenes" for MK. You know, just an idea

As for the writing, no spoilers, but none of the recent MK games have been great. It's like Marvel, but with severed limbs and fatalities. On the one hand, this is understandable; the plot isn't the most important part of fighting games, after all. On the other hand, NetherRealm Studios has a series of games called Injustice, which have a better story (but they hired additional writers for that). Interestingly, WB released a comic book as a prequel to MKX, written by one of the young writers at DC. It was much more interesting than the game's plot, and it's a shame they didn't invite the same guy to help with the game. The comic goes into more detail about some of the new characters, though it's not entirely canon. As for the new characters, most people hated them or the idea that they were "taking the place" of classic characters. Some of them were removed in subsequent games. And predictably, people started asking for them to return, calling them excellent additions to the game. By the way, a lot of people criticized MK1 for the lack of new characters. I think you can never please anyone. I can't wait for the second part, and then MK11 and MK1. The leap in quality is incredible; this game feels seriously outdated in comparison. Prepare to be impressed and constantly forget that you're watching a game.
