MY FAVOURITE PART YET!

I certainly felt that way when we stopped the tape. Utterly fantastic, I didn’t want it to end and not one moment was wasted with filler content. If any of it was then that showcases the writing quality or how the game comes across with a helping hand from those cutscenes/cinematics.

Can I ask, was any of you expecting Parsley’s aka Red’s true voice to be like that!? I’m shocked! Truth be told, that happens a lot in this video part and probably another reason why I love this game or the entire Final Fantasy 7 story. Chefs Kiss!

Sweet we're like a third of the way through the game lol

most of the characters have a little theme song/jingle in the OG; Yuffie is singing some silly lyrics to the tune of her's in Gongaga

Go back and play the old one? Once per year at least, finished my last run last week. For nostalgia, pure joy, the music, mimicing the lines following the storytelling and ofcourse; the polygons :) Yum!

I think I mentioned last time, but sound is weird in the footage you are watching. Dialogue a bit low and the sound is overall a bit boomy. Sound in the game isn't actually like that, so don't hold it against it.

Andyroo

Glad you are picking up the motifs. Every Major character has their own themes and sometimes it uses it to present Idea or items. A lot more things come together once you start picking up on Sephiroth or Jenova motifs in scenes.

The tifa lifestream sequence is probably my favorite moment in the game

Chris.N7

The song that Yuffie is singing on the couch is just her making up a song to the tune of her own theme. Not sure if you noticed but the stance that Cloud assumes before attacking the Shinra soldiers is Sephiroth's stance. Roche already was a SOLDIER. But he wants to be stronger since Cloud keeps whooping his ass lol. People hate the Red XIII voice, but I find it hilarious that he's just been doing a Batman voice to sound tougher and older the entire time. It was in the Japanese version OG game but it wasn't voiced so you never heard it. It's also the same voice actor doing both.

Jay Carter

This is my favourite part also. It's setting up that ish is going down. All of these scenes are the same regardless of who you've got most affection with. I love that part when Cloud turned into Sephiroth with the way he held the sword and his signature moves. Basicaly a possession. Keep it up, love this series. Also Red's voice actor is doing both voices himself.

The fact that Rufu’s dog (Dark Star) doesn’t react to Glen is a tell-tale sign to the nature of who or what Glen is. Like you said a guard dog like Dark Star should be growling at someone who seems antagonistic to his master, so if it’s not a mistake that he isn’t, what would that imply? If you roll back and see that Rufus actually checks Dark Star’s reaction to someone entering his room before he himself looks at them. There’s a reason for that. Tifa reliving her memories is part of the original but the part of her being swallowed by the weapon is new. This sequence isn’t affected by who you have a strong relationship with ie the “romance” but there is a portion of the game that is coming up later in the game. By the looks of it and because I’ve seen many compilation videos have the same character for that scene and I think I can tell who it’s going to be which is a shame because we’ll lose on some story beat set up, important characterization, and the use of some very effective thematic parallels for the ending of the game. I might as well not get my hopes up that they’ll go with the more story relevant choice but I guess we can provide the lore dump when we get there and till the end of the game.

Ruukasu97

the hole gongaga part hits way different if youve played the prequel before or if you replayed/rewatched it after the prequel all the moments of "oh thats how this is connected" and "that character did that" or "thats why this triggeres clounds green headaches or whatever they are"

Hey man, really enjoying the FFVII Vids! Im a new patreon subscriber that just subscribed for this series because Im an artist that's interested in learning more about composition and lighting, and its cool learning more about it with one of my favorite video game series I'm still catching up but I noticed you talking about not being sure which version of the game this was in a previous video and I wanted to mention that this game originally released on the PS5, but the PS5 Pro and PC Max settings versions of the game are vastly superior to the original PS5 performance mode version in terms of visual quality and are even better than the base PS5 Graphics mode, so it might be worth checking into what version of the game you're reacting to in order to experience the visuals with the best quality. I cant tell from the Patreon video because Im not sure if the quality is due to just the site, but I know from first hand that the performance mode on the OG PS5 makes the game look a LOT worse. This game really needs all the help it can get because it does struggle with lighting in some scenarios as you've pointed out, its been a common fan criticism. Aside from that this part in the game is one of the best parts in my opinion. Love all the new character development scenes they added with Cloud and Tifa. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series!

The Original release actual holds really well with the "materia" combat system allows alot of build variety and as someone that plays it once a year there are some crazy things you can do if you know what you are doing.

For the romance question the only thing that really changes is who you have a longer date with later in the game (please please please have a video that shows all the dates) but the scene with Cloud and Tifa in the room is canon, Cloud grilling Aerith about Zack is canon. So jealousy and misunderstandings are a problem when you have someone like Cloud who is terrible at making a first move and leaving it up to the girls to shoot their shot. I think he likes both of them but has no idea how to move things romantically because he is such a pure boy

Saj

Reds personality changes in the OG but because it's text only it's easy to miss. It was jarring and not as good as his deeper voice but it's lore accurate lol. It's the same VA too. I love how you can't believe this was in the 97 game. I think the scene in Bugenhagens observatory was even better and my absolute favorite of the OG. The pacing and dialoge was a bit better. Sometimes little things like how long do you let something breathe goes a long way.

I genuinely dont want to spoil what you will see, but you are onto something with Zack Fair and timelines. See, you only know if you play the original FF7, but in the OG, Zack Fair died back at that area where he fought all those soldiers shown at the end of FF7 Remake. So when we all saw Zack ALIVE walking back with Cloud, trust me when i say we were all like ".....what the actual fuck is happening, this is no longer the same story". There are some things that have been changed in this remake story, and i will not spoil why that is, but i will say this, they use the term "Remake" but its something much more. Also, with the biker soldier that Hojo was experimenting on, two things to clarify, One he is also a soldier first class just like Cloud, Zack, and Sepiroth. The way he is batshit crazy and the fact that they show he has the same green eyes as them (because they are infused with Mako to become a solder first class). Two, that little "purple rock" hojo had was flesh of Jenova.

Alright Kai what a Banger of a video again. I really enjoyed it and like some people already mentioned the seriousness from now on is definitely going up a few notches. Remake and Rebirth so far love to confuse the hell out of you when it comes to Zach and Cloud’s dynamic. I’m gonna save my words for the whole dream sequence section, but I will say that there’s this other little prequel game called Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core Reunion that’s completely centered around Zach. The game was remastered in 2022 with the same Remake era voice actors for continuity but it’s still showing its age regardless. I would definitely recommend you to check it out after Rebirth. It covers a whole lot of lore that Remake and Rebirth only scratched the surface of but be aware that it might spoil some of part 3’s important plot moments. So it’s up to you :) Aside from that Tifa’s entire section this episode was the main plot line and wasn’t affected by the in-game relationship point mechanics. Cheers to you and I’m already looking forward to part 6

They got away with a lot with ps1 graphics and pre rendered backgrounds to tell this story it’s honestly insane. There are differences here and there (fun fact: Gongaga is actually completely optional in the original) People got mad about the remake being split into 3 parts but the sheer scale of this world, its lore, and how much of it you see and get to explore is absolutely monumental. They haven’t cut anything and have no plans to from what I understand. I’m just saying, even WITH rebirth building upon everything remake did, that third part is gonna have to pull up with that same amount of passion and hard work there is still insane things to come its just glorious there’s no other game like Final Fantasy VII Also, you are asking all the right questions with the plot. That is all I will say thank you 🙏

Austin Ball

Hope you’re a fan of opera. That’s coming in the next episode or two.

It's funny because there was a couple of times that you hear Parsley's real voice way before this! There was one with him talking to Aerith in the inn before Junon with Cloud listening in through the door that you looked confused about and again at Johnny's inn with the dolly zoom on the shower head. It's just a couple of quick lines before he switches back to the fake voice. I think a couple of the reasons the story for this game works so well and the length isn't an issue for many people is that it's not just episodic but each bigger section is almost treated like it's own small stories for the world that end with a reason to go to the next place and rather than just following one thread of story from start to end like Remake you follow multiple that start to weave together. Rather than each section being part of the main story, they are their own complete mini stories where you find out the main story along the way. Kinda like the story version of how camera movements or cuts refresh the eyes if that makes sense?

I think that what I love the most about the Final Fantasy games in general is that they arent afraid of being too playful or too serious when they want to. In general I like stories that have more seriousness and all, but I find it extremely hard to do what this game does with the balance. For example, a character like Yuffie tends to be more goofy in general and the comic relief of the group, but we have also seen moments when she steps up when the stakes are higher and a story that can make something like that and not feel disconnected is masterful. And Final Fantasy knows how to do that in general with its characters, so you never know what to expect

superjoker982

Watching someone experience this for the first time helps me enjoy watching the campaign all over again, man am I excited for part 3!

Kingdom Hearts is a Disney/Final Fantasy crossover game made by Square Enix. So you find Final Fantasy and Disney characters throughout the game

This is the best answer explaining relationships! This video doesn't show some side quest cutscenes that also feels like building up relationship with one of the girls (or both of them). Like there is a scene during side mission Bugenhagen gives you to investigate dead lifestream springs in Cosmos Canyon or some star formations and suddenly Aerith decides to take a funny camera selfie shot with Cloud that's totally out of his character but he agrees and even smiles because he wants to please her. Or a scene where they hear Wiggs (the fat cat guy from first game) voice in lifestream implying that he died in shinra tower. So not all sidequests are fillers. And each player's experience might become totally different even within same story (amazing game, really).

First patreon comment, and a minor wall of text, but no spoilers! You mentioned "Do you go back and play the OG sometimes"? Absolutely! It was also the first video game I got my 60yo Mum to try (and she finished it fully). I played the "this is a story, you like reading, off you go!" card, and it worked a treat as a gateway to gaming for her. The voice reveal for Red was one of many moments that they lightly brushed on in the OG and I think they knocked it out of the park here. Sure it was jarring when I first experienced it, but isn't it supposed to be? Isn't that exactly how the party feels? I thought it was epic. On the subject of somewhat jarring things in Cosmo Canyon, you mentioned a few NPCs with "normal" outfits and I think they are genuinely tourists if you go round and listen to them :D I love your comments about the score being its own character, and I love how the composers have made it work for a cold caller like you but also someone like me who is neck-deep in FF games. During my first playthrough of Remake and Rebirth, I found myself listening to certain parts of the score, and while playing the original versions of the songs in my head, I would get surprised at something different in a song which would suggest certain things for me to reconsider (despite being very familiar with the original PS1 game). The songs throughout Cosmo Canyon are always so wonderful to listen to, especially the Seto reveal in both OG and Rebirth. Its always a tear jerker! Last segment you commented on sidequest bloat, and I think that's a word which is probably the most common complaint about Rebirth. There's a huge amount of content! I got the impression with Rebirth that they wanted to give us mid-30s gamers a similar feeling of "Wow, this game is huge" which we first had as kids when we left Midgar on our PS1 and realised that the bike escape wasn't the end of the game. For me at least, that "oh my god, this game just keeps going and its incredible" feeling was replicated again between the OG and Remake/Rebirth. The sidequests generally have more worldbuilding and character moments for the people who want that level of immersion (like me!), I don't feel they're completely fetch quests but I also recognise that this is just an opinion of mine. Rebirth is a game I still can't really believe is real, its so amazing to me as someone who had FF7 as their first PS1 game. Sure there's stuff wrong with Remake/Rebirth! In Remake, the aerial combat was horrendous, but they definitely addressed that in Rebirth. Also, in Rebirth specifically, I noticed the lighting stuff which you explained to us so nicely, and from what we've seen so far, I was a little taken out of it during the Barret/Dyne segment from a story perspective (I didn't mind the sidequest stuff, even in the desert town, but I definitely see how others may dislike it). I don't know if a game can ever be perfect, but I'm so happy to see that the director, producer, writer, co-director and composer are all returning from the original 1997 game to work on this project, and can hopefully see their vision for FF7 have its own rebirth. I've now replayed through Remake and Rebirth at least 3 times each, once with my Mum watching so she can see the Remake/Rebirth version of what she first played :) You've definitely earned my patronage here, Kai. I love hearing passionate people talk about what they love, and you're absolutely one of those!

As someone who's not as enamored with FFVII as most fans (many writing flaws imho, as well as sexism of the roof - a bit less funny when you're a woman yourself), I found myself entranced by this part. Wasn't a fan of Parsley's (I call him that now damn you 😂) story with his dad in the OG... but the way they dove inte to Gi, and brought them to life here, was so new, modern and mysterious! Also the choice to turn Cosmo Canion into a commercialised therapy center of stagnation and ignorance was something I loved. That juxtaposition with the very real and visceral ancient history and malice hidden beneath the vale is *chef's kiss 🤌. I hope you enjoy the rest of the Gi's story - I sure did.

Horatio Williams

I'm so happy you highlighted the score. Rebirth won the award for best score in 2024. The character's themes work exactly as you said to frame everything in shot. For example, in that sequence where Cloud attacked Tifa, Sephiroth's motif plays to clue you into who's really pulling the strings there. Same for Tifa's motif playing when she wakes up. The use of music is a strong point of the franchise, let alone FF7.

Horatio Williams

Oh also, yeah the scene where Cloud questions Aerith about Zack and the bedroom scene with Tifa happen regardless of bond level with either woman. The bond system reflects how the characters feel towards Cloud, and it's done so as to keep things consistent between Cloud's character and the overarching plot. I think you'd enjoy looking at a compilation of all the dates once you've wrapped up the story. They're all good fun, especially Yuffie's.

Hctaz

The planetology cutscene in the original was also one of the few “expensive cutscenes” they had back in the 1997 original, so they absolutely had to do it here as well.
