Can't wait for this but already a little bit soured because they recast Sephiroth. I didn't even recognise that it was supposed to be him when he speaks in the trailer. He went from sound cold and eery to like a generic macho anime character. Wish they'd got someone that sounded a bit closer to the original actor. For reference it's at 4:35 in this reaction.

I wouldn´t worry about Travis. I have the feeling when you got used to his voice he will even be better then the original actor. And since you liked the last clip If you want more of those Kaiju battles there is nothing better then FF16 *hint hint* ;-)

I wish they didn’t recast sephiroth man that hurts my soul 😢😢😢😢 that actor was given multiple projects to grow into the character and he did it beautifully. I think the new guy will be good too but it eats at me knowing the original vision wasn’t truly fulfilled and will likely never be I have confidence the game is gonna be damn near 10/10 tho everything game design wise has led to this

i was watching the show with 3 of my friends and one of them only played remake, when he saw the trailer he said "oh cool everybody survived rebirth" i was holding back so much. In the end when they showed the flowers he realized it and shouted "aerith's gone"

We have confirmation that quests should be better! One of the main problems with Rebirth is that you pretty much needed to all the quests because you never knew what the reward was and if you wanted the best gear you kinda had to do everything. But we got confirmation from Developer interviews that the quests will now reward you with whatever type of quest it is. Combat quests give combat gear, goofy quests/minigames will give cosmetics or achievements. So now you will be able to do what you want without the completionist complex of "what if I miss a weapon/spell?". Makes it so if you find some of the side content cheesy or unnecessary you can now do what you want and still have the full progress you would otherwise

I think the actor has another role in a movie so he wanted to do that instead of FF7. Sad but it is what it is.

@Jay Carter I don't really buy that reasoning tbh. He already had multiple other projects on the go during Remake and Rebirth. I have a hard time believing that they couldn't get him to finish a handful of lines in this games 3-4 year dev cycle. Sephiroth doesn't have an insane amount of dialogue.

To be real Kai part 3 is honestly the best part of the OG. This stuff that goes down is considered some of the best stuff in video gaming to be real. buckle up. Another thing to keep in mind is 90% percent of them stayed on from rebirth to revelation so they are able to really work way more effiecient and figure out things faster. Also with what the director Hamaguchi has said about what to expect holy!

I didn't even notice. I use the Japanese VA track. They're just such stronger actors since being a VA in Japan is a serious artform and in the West it's just a job.

I'll probably still just mod the minigames to be basically autocomplete so I can just get whatever story/content is behind them without having to pull my hair out trying to get 100 more points trying to fly a chocobo around in the air.

@Feyd good for you. I like being able to understand what the actors are saying. The English dub for these games is good, I don't know what point you're trying to make. Plenty of passionate English actors.

Cannot wait to fight the Weapons, 2 of which were "Super bosses" in the OG Emerald Weapon and Ruby Weapon (4.30). I know some people don't like that side quests and mini games, but I'm going to enjoy EVERY last minute of this game..because once it's over, that's it.."The journey ends here"

Kind of what the subtitles are there for. But it's okay. You can keep enjoying the phoned in performances all you like. 👍

For people who don't like the minigames, they will apparently be entirely skipable in Revelation. That said, Hamaguchi, the director has said there are actually MORE in this game XD. Also what you choose to do will mean that the story will progress differently, but ultimately it's supposed to have a single definitive end. I've heard as well that demo may not be too far off. My guess is the Tokyo Game Show, so around 3rd week of September. Cos they're simultaneously releasing it on All Platforms, it should be really exciting, because it means everyone can play it on release, no matter their console/computer. If you're open to it, I'd love to see you give the demo a go when it comes out, or react to someone else playing the demo. I do feel you with Aerith being missing. She and Zack are conspiciously absent in the trailers, which is interesting given Rebirth's ending I'm also really excited about the different outfits - the FITS system. Essentially it's a job system to help with different play styles. So Cloud's outfit in the trailer is th Fighter class, and Tifa's is a Black Mage. Barret looks like he's wearing a Paladin (Tank) and Cait Sith looks like a Summoner outfit. Apparently there's 4 FITS per character too. I'm looking forward to seeing you react to FF16. Its more medieval, but they let them up the censorship rating so it feels a lot more real in some scenes. I think you may enjoy it.

You're making that judgement off of one line. Let him do his thing and then when the game releases decide how you feel about it. For all you know he could have been specifically told to add more gruff to his voice for that line, especially considering there's no telling what the context of the scene is. Either way I personally prefer it; Tyler Hoechlin's voice didn't come across as cold and eerie to me, it just felt flat. Definitely my least favorite casting in the whole main roster. I have total faith that whether you prefer it or not, Travis Willingham will give an amazing performance as he always does.

@Roy Corvette to each their own but it doesn't even sound remotely like the same person, Willingham is a good VA but that doesn't necessarily mean he's good for this role, and regardless of how well he does I still wont like that the voice is just different out of nowhere in the third game.

The problem withe the Japanese VA:s is that you hear them in literally everything in Japan, and sadly their performances are very one-note. If you hear Toshiyuki Morikawa in one thing you know exactly what he's going to sound like in every other thing. It's not bad, just too recognisable. Like, I hear Morikawa instead of Sephiroth (and Cloud is just badly cast in Japanese imo - prefer the English guy any day).

Hahah, yeah I like em a fair bit so I’m not particularly worried. I do get some people felt “pulled out of the story” too much in Rebirth, but I actually liked that they contributed to the story at times. Like the Protorelic mission in the Nibel region is a really good example.

Yeah to answer the "a lance???" question you had: A lot of the characters in Final Fantasy games are based on their older "job system" When you think of a "class" like a mage, a fighter, whatever, they called those "jobs" So Tifa is mostly based on a monk/fighter for example. One of the classic jobs that people really enjoy is the "Dragoon" who fights with a lance and has the power to jump insane heights. The jumping thing is something I guess they learn to be able to literally leap to a dragon to fight it in the air. But Cid is based on the Dragoon and wields a lance as a result.

The captain is Cid Highwind. There is a Cid in every Final Fantasy game.
