Here we are… A movie I’ve been so excited to watch again but not only with my filmmaking glasses on but with a whole new appreciation to a character I now know and love.

Just like The Force (light side) I have equal amounts of dread (Darkside) that comes with it. You know what I mean and what scene I’m talking about.

As we watch along, I have many questions that form not only about the lore and I know my lore masters in the community have me covered but the actual story. It’s delivery, story structure/the thread, character development and how does the movie come across with all this additional information from the TV show?

The biggest question I have and I know the movie was out many a year before the Andor show but is that Cinematic Masterpiece of entertainment (Andor the tv show) a thorn in the side of this movie and for its fans going from one arc into another? Did it ruin or damage my enjoyment for this “A Star Wars Story?”

Another question I have for you guys now that I’m typing this… Platonic or non-platonic? Ask yourself this after you’ve watched it with me. 👀

For one more time with our boy and say it with meaning now guys… Play The Tape! 📼

the Rogue One reaction is finally here and it's on a MONDAY NIGHT? not going to work tomorrow for sure 🙂‍↕️

Reacher

Imma be putting a bunch of comments as I go through this (apologies!). I've not watched your reaction yet, but I've always viewed Jyn and Andor's relationship as platonic. And even more so now with the context of the TV show

Seyomint

Rogue One will be my favorite Star Wars film of all time! There’s just so much done right! Also features one of my favorite martial arts actors! Donnie Yen! You’ll be seeing him pretty soon if you continue watching one of your recently started film series reaction. And I’d love to suggest my favorite film featuring the actor if you might be interested. It is a Chinese film series and a well-directed series too!

Connor

great film, loved it when it came out and loved it even more after watching Andor. Did bother me how they switched up protagonists though, kept wanting more Andor and K2.

LaurenAnne

A star wars binge you say. I'm here for it if you are Kai

Nj-Howey

damn, this movie flew by so quickly, you are correct, scarif was a map on battefront 1 (ea version) battlefront was developed by the same studio as battlefield, Dice (studio name), scariff was map added as tie-in for the film for the game

Nj-Howey

i'm down for more star wars films as well

carrot

One of the best Star Wars films/things outside the original trilogy & Andor S1-2. I like the fact that we now have a whole new Andor Trilogy.. A Star Wars prequel after a prequel!

I highly recommend you watch The Myth That Rogue One Shattered by ArTorr on YouTube. It’s absolutely amazing and does a fantastic job of capturing the essence of Rogue One. It’s cinematic and absolutely art. You should do a reaction to it, but if not then definitely still watch it on your own.

3milyyy

It’s touched on well in ArTorr’s documentary video, but a lot of the details of this film were chosen because it’s supposed to align more closely with a “docu-war film” than traditional Star Wars. That’s why there’s no opening crawl of text, not a single wipe or fade cut in the entire film, and why they went with a more improvised shooting style, with handheld cameras and complete 360-degree sets.

Remember asking once but where'd you get that shirt, mate? Looks great and you're looking great. 👌

3milyyy

Yeah, I’ve always seen their relationship as platonic.

Phryte

Amazing! If you love Andor you need to review Peaky Blinders. Peek TV cinematography

This is the only disney era film i like, It actually puts war into star wars. I weirdly enjoy a film where the hero's don't win. But you have to now watch the honest trailers of this film, it is so funny.

Some say Star wars rips off Dune, they straight up got Liet Kynes as one of the Rebel alliance.

Honestly, this makes the opening scene of A New Hope even funnier. Vader was at that battle. He was steps away from Leia’s ship. He watched it fly off and escape. Episode IV begins, he’s chased it down and captured it. Just for Leia to look him dead in the eyes and say “I don’t know anything about any plans, I’m on a diplomatic mission.” She should have been promoted to Queen of Sass immediately 😂😂😂

Reacher

So a couple things, now that I've finished the reaction: Leia was there on the mission because as her father said earlier on in the movie, she is the only one he trusts with such an important task I think after 24 episodes of slow burn and set up, the fast-paced nature of this movie is a brilliant cap for Andor, before seamlessly going into the OT As for the fragility you mention, it make sense to me. For all of Andor, they were existing on the periphery. Building up in the shadows, and they weren't ready for a head-on conflict. So even regular Stormtroopers had a heightened sense of danger. But their status, and preparedness, has increased, along with the plot. We're now dealing with key plans that can land a massive blow to The Empire. So with everything increasing in scope, it makes sense that it would also work the other way, with The Empire sending in more toys. And the fragility was a good visual representation for this I think I don't think you will have too much of a disconnected when heading into A New Hope. Similar to how you loved Jaws, with it being all practical and shot in camera, I think you will have a similar appreciation for ANH (despite George's additions) And yes, absolutely get onto the Original Trilogy, it still remains peak Star Wars to this day. And who knows, but that will lead onto some Prequel Trilogy reactions (one can hope)

Bren

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say the Chinese film series is Ip Man

Ducard

Since the dp is Greig Fraser, everytime I see Vader entering the scene I think like "Ohh no it is Batman" /o\ You cannot tell me that the Vader scene at the end for example, did not inspire the Batman fight scene in the dark hallway when he goes for Falcone

Ymir

It really is difficult watching a feature film after Andor because everything feels so rushed and unearned, like you're trying to cram 15 hours of story into 2 hours of runtime. Makes me appreciate films like Dune for pacing itself and going: "No, we're doing a trilogy we need 7 hours to tell this whole story properly." I didn't expect it to be so hard watching Andor take a back seat in this, and it gives you that feeling whenever Jyn shows up to take charge of "Who the fuck are you? Sit down, rando." like someone wrote their own Mary Sue author insert character to come take over our Andor movie. But I think overall it held up surprisingly well despite all that.

Austin Ball

I like the idea that Andor hasn’t seen Bix since she left, and so he hasn’t forgotten her, but his memory of her has grown a little fuzzy since they parted

BaconJets

On the angle of platonic vs romance, I think that they did a good job of playing it off in Andor. Just the cool and sly way which Andor carries himself in the show makes it feel like every woman he meets wants to jump his bones. Obviously they were trying to force a small amount of romantic chemistry in this film, but they did a really good job of soft "retconning" that in the show. I also had the same reaction where the pace and feel of this film felt a little strange after watching Andor, but it still felt so much more serious and real than any other Star Wars film that Disney oversaw.

BaconJets

Also, the comparisons to Star Trek are always apt. They definitely both borrow from one another, and they should. Now if only Star Trek could create something as good as Andor.

Chris.N7

The shift in tone is very jarring too, especially with the music. This score is so big and bombastic, it's like a Temu version of John Williams.

Phryte

I am once again, watching this reaction
