The first movie was a love letter to animation, the second movie basically said hold my beer! I can not believe what my eyes have just witnessed, the art, the filmmaking/artist techniques, the rule breaking and the most important one… THE SPIDER-PEOPLE!

The first movie was a love letter to animation, this movie was a love letter to Spider-Man!

What I find tough though is the pain and somewhat misery the animation studio went through to make this amazing movie. I go more into this in the intro so I’ll leave it there but the question is… Is the art worth the pain?

As a consumer most people don’t give a shit, they got what they wanted (the movie) but here in this community, I want us to see both sides of the story. You know me and that both sides of the coin saying. Worth thinking about and… Is it happening right now?

Away from that though, what an AWESOME and AMAZING movie!

Due to the fact the next one isn’t out until next year (fingers crossed), I’m going to struggle to wait so we need to find something else Spider-Man related to sink our teeth into.

Time to start Spider-Man 2 I think on the gaming side and what do you say to us heading back to the blockbusting year of 2002 and starting the movie journey from the start?

Let me know regarding this but before that,

I would love to see you go through all of the Spider-Man movies. That would be super fun

Miguel isn't a "natural" Spider-Man. He wasn't bitten by a spider, he went through a gene altering procedure to cure his drug addiction, which was sabotaged and ended up splicing his DNA with a spider. He can't stick to walls like other Spider-People so instead he has sharp claws. He also have fangs that produce paralysing venom. He's not a vampire lol. He's also not above killing if he has to. Very much a darker Spider-Man. The Spot is an oldschool Spidey villain, he just has a new origin here with Miles. The Chinese store lady in live action is from Venom. The Lego stuff was animated by a 14 year old fan too after they saw his Youtube videos they hired him to make that scene.

I don’t know if you noticed or not, but Hobbie is constantly trying to help Mile’s throughout the movie. He first teaches Mile’s to use his palms when absorbing energy, he tries to get Miles out of going to HQ, he steals things from HQ to make his own watch, he tells Mile’s to be careful about enlisting till he knows what he’s fighting for, and he reminds Mile’s about using his palms when he’s stuck in the energy bubble. Hobbie’s a real one

Also, You know how Mumbattan Spider-Man, Pavitr Prabhakar, has only been Spider-man for the past 6 months? It’s neat to see how that’s reflected in how he acts: he’s too early in his career to know not to say that it’s a job well done, he says being Spider-Man is easy, and you can tell he hasn’t faced any loss yet

Great reaction to a great movie and loooking forward to the third one. Until then there is still time for the Spider-Man 2 game (long overdue ;-) ), the Spider-Noir series and all the Spider-Man movies. I´d say there is no way around it anymore. :-D

The woman at 43:30 is from the Tom Hardy Venom movies.

Here for the Spidey franchise watch! You're gonna love Spider-Man 2, such an awesome game.

At 1:03:35 Rio said “Dios te Bendiga.” Which is Spanish for “God Bless you,” basically

The wait for this was worth it, movie feels so short everytime I watch it cause it’s too good

To add more context, it's a standard greeting call-and-response within Puerto Rican families. Think of saying "Namaste" within Indian culture. One person, almost always a younger person/family member, says "Bendición" ("Blessing," or, in this context, asking for a blessing). The other person, usually a parent, uncle, grandparent, or a loved adult, responds with "Dios te Bendiga," imparting the blessing. It stems from the catholic upbringing interwoven within the Puerto Rican culture, but even if they're not religious, it's really just a way to greet each other with no other connotation.

Its not really a hero complex Miguel has literally had to deal with Miles shit for the last year plus the Spider-Man from the MCU as he sasid at the start.

Yep, same goes for the majority of Latinos for the most part. Like as a Salvadoran, we say it all the time

Miles loses both his dad and aaron because uncle aaron was his uncle ben. Unfortunately, his dad just happens to be captain. The canon is mean

Having to wait so long for the next film after a cliffhanger like that 😭

47:55 is the best moment in the whole reaction😂 those sound effects into the laugh has got me crying

Michael Alexis Garcia

He's even antagonizing the other Spider-Men. For example, when he says, "Here we go," as Miles starts pushing back, Jessica says, "Hobie, you're not helping," followed immediately by "Good." And immediately after goading Miles to stand up for himself, he quits Spider-Society. I love his character.

Some people mentioned/alluded to it already, but there are two different canon events: 1. Losing Uncle Ben, or a Father Figure of the same cloth. (I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it's ALWAYS strictly an Uncle) For Miles, this was his Uncle Aaron. 2. Losing a close Captain, or an equivalent Law Enforcement Figure. (Again, its not always strictly called a Captain, we saw in the movie the Pavitra's close law enforcement figure had the title of 'Police Inspector') For Miles, this would be his father. It's a little unfortunate for Miles that both of the canon events revolve around actual family members, but otherwise is still within the canon. Now, for some of my own ramblings. It's interesting that Miles even HAS canon events, right? I mean, the spider wasn't supposed to bite him, and in his universe those canon events had already happened to the original spider man, why would those canon events have to happen AGAIN to keep that timeline from collapsing? My theory? The canon has nothing to do with the timelines themselves, but with the spidermen. It's not that the canon has to happen to the timeline, but that it has to happen to the spiderman of that timeline. (I am aware of the comic events that kind of explain this, but I'm not convinced it will be the same for this trilogy, and I kind of hope it isn't, since it kinda takes away what makes Spiderman special, and that's all I'll say on that.) Now, the really interesting thing is that we're shown that the canon MIGHT be changeable instead of destroyed. While it's implied that Gwen's dad is safe now that he's not a Captain, we can't really say for sure. I mean, what's the real difference if he dies a few weeks later after quitting to some falling debris? For most of the story, he was a Captain. I'd say in the 'Zeitgeist' of the timeline, he would still fall under the whole "Close Captain" even if officially he quit and isn't one anymore. The OTHER interesting thing is Pavitra's canon event. Two things: 1, Spot wasn't his Nemesis, and the canon event specifically says 'during a fight with his Nemesis'. 2, If Spot didn't exist because Miles story didn't happen (which has been labeled an Anomaly) then Alchemax wouldn't have been collapsing, thus that canon wouldn't have happened at all. Here's my theory about this: Spot's power goes beyond dimensional hopping and portals. I think, at least subconsciously, Spot can change the Canon with no repercussions. I think he subconsciously caused Pavitra's Police Captain Canon Event to happen, which is why the computer doesn't notice at first, until only a few moments before hand. Remember how they told Miles his Dad was to die in two days when he was sworn in? How could they know that two days in advance but not Pavitra's? And I believe it's because Spot changed the canon. Unfortunately, because it WAS the new Canon, Miles changing it caused the unraveling. Sorry for the long post! Thanks if you read it all, Kai and Viewers. Love the reactions as always! Needless to say, I'm so hyped for the 3rd one.

Loved your intro. I have close friends working as character artists and riggers, and yeah, they all have horror stories. Luckily, they work in France, where we have a specific unemployment system called Intermittent du spectacle, which helps a lot if you find yourself in production hell. Walking away is actually a viable option.

Knew you'd love this. I have no idea how you can focus on cinematography in the craziness, but you somehow did it and still taught during it 😊 You didn't mention it so in case you don't know directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed both Spiderverses (and the upcoming one), Project Hail Mary, and The Lego Batman Movie all of which you've reacted too. Also, composer Daniel Pemberton worked on those too except Lego Batman. They're an amazing team across such a broad scope. In regard to the studio intensity many elite animations require that commitment. Examples are Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli movies), Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion), and Hideo Kojima (whom you know well) are all perfectionists and push their artists to the absolute edge. But if they didn't either the work would be less impressive or take twice as long. How do you solve it? Personally, I worked a 9-5 job as a motion designer for 12 years then got to join an elite studio where we worked 60-70 hrs almost all the time for years. We felt we were fortunate to get to work on what we did and were known for excellence in our industry. It was worth the price to me, but many people came and went over the years - they loved the creativity but hated the chaos, drama, and hours. But they kind of go hand-in-hand I think when you're pushing the boundaries.

This video is exactly why I am so glad to have subscribed. I can't wait for beyond the spider-verse to release and other things for Kai to see. I remember watching Nerdwriter1 on YouTube back then. He once made a video about Harry Potter 3 directed by Alfinso Cuarón. I also remember when I started to pick up stuff that I couldn't put my finger on rewatching that movie over and over. Then I saw Nerdwriters video being able to put my findings and things new to me to words. That was a big aha moment for me. I am by no means an expert now but I know how to appreciate movies or games that are beyond just watching it, of course there's nothing wrong with just watching a movie 🙂

Actually the T-Rex Spider Man is real, and they are called Pter Ptarker.

Being a Patreon just for this reaction, worth it.
