"Speed. I am speed." — Lightning McQueen (Cars, 2006)

Guys! I didn’t know I needed this film in my life… I love it!

Also, can I just add. This recommendation came from the one and only, Miss Zammit! That’s right, my eldest daughter recommended a movie for us to watch, a movie she and her little sister have been loving. To be honest, she just said Cars - as in the whole franchise but I’ve not seen them so let’s start at the beginning.

Remember, I’m not really a Disney guy! Saying that, I know I love Star Wars but Disney purchased that IP.

Also… There’s a slap tickle of Days of Thunder here and I don’t know if you’re aware of this. Days of Thunder [1990] is my favourite movie ever made and I know nothing about Nascar. Goes to show you how amazing the writing and shooting of that picture really is. There’s even a mistake where the actress calls Tom Cruise “TOM!” Not by his characters name yet it’s still my favourite.

"Rubbing's racing." — Harry Hogge (Days of Thunder, 1990)

So immediately I was kind of sold on Cars or at least hoping it was shot or paid homage to that 1990 banger.

As I mentioned, this movie I didn’t know I needed in my life but the big question is… WHY!? Why am I glad I’ve now experienced a movie about talking cars with eyes?

It comes down to a few factors. One it reminds me of that “movie magic”, movies we watched as kids that felt like different worlds. Adventures even.

The main reason is the writing and that LESS IS MORE approach. We’ll go into this more as we watch the movie together plus all the other questions, I have about evoking an emotion with a car.

Start your engines and Play the Tape!

My childhood right here, I watched this movie so many times as a kid so good. This gives me a reason to watch it again!

LaurenAnne

Wasn't expecting this to pop up but now I have my movie to watch while having dinner. Thanks Kai 👍

Light

This is one of my favorite movie series of my childhood. Peak

Bubonic Bron

You should absolutely react to Predator!!

Idle Analysis

Incredible reccomendation from your daughter! This film was playing in my house everyday when I was growing up but I’ll never ever get sick of it😭

Distorted Wolf

22:00 I dont know why but, Harv at sounds so different from how I remember when I watched this a billion times.

Xandur

Cars 2 has to come next. that movie was an inspiration, and it's the reason why the most legendary racing movies of our time even exist today — the likes of Ford v Ferrari and F1 (i may be making most of that up. but it's a fun film)

Giggeri

yea same

Patrick DaCosta

I thought I was going crazy for a moment when I heard Harv's voice. I don't remember him having a UK accent. Apparently, it is different for the UK release. I remember Harv having an American accent.

I’m so glad you covered this! Fun fact, this was the first movie I saw in theaters. I was only 3 years old (which does mean I was born in 2003, yes). A childhood staple for my generation. If you want to stay in the racing realm, Ford vs Ferrari (2019) would be a banger reaction. Completely off the topic of cars/racing though, I’d love a reaction to the film 1917. Won many awards, with best cinematography being one of them in the Academy Awards, BAFTA Awards, & Critic’s Choice Awards. (shoutout Roger Deakins who was the head of cinematography for it). Also won best directing, with the director being Sam Mandes, at the BAFTA Awards, Golden Globes Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, & Directors Guild of America Awards. Well worth a watch. It’s whole shtick is that it’s meant to look like one shot the entire film. It’s fantastic.

I was not expecting this movie to pop up on the channel, but I’m so glad you covered it! This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and watching it again brought back so many great memories. Pixar has so many amazing movies that I’d love to see you cover on the channel through your filmmaker lens. If I could choose one movie for you to cover, though, it would have to be the first Incredibles movie or Ratatouille! I think either would be a blast to watch, especially with your commentary on all the different techniques used. Or, if you’ve already seen them, I’d love to hear your thoughts on them!

Person

I’ll always love this film, even as an adult. This movie was basically on repeat for me as a kid. I remember waking my parents up at all sorts of hours during the night just so I could watch it again. I think the Cars movies are definitely worth watching, but I’d especially love to hear what you think about the twist Cars 2 puts on what I consider Cars 1 to be a “racing” movie.

Kassett0

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one

Light

Fun fact i just learned from your version of the film. Depending if you are in the UK or the US, Harv (lightnings agent) has a British VA or an American VA

I think when he stuck his tongue out after jumping off tires was a nod to the professional basketball player Michael Jordan. When he played he often stuck his tongue out.

LordKnoppers

That was incredible, thank you for that awesome reaction. I couldn't believe my eyes seeing that notification. Speaking of, The Incredibles is a also a very neat movie in my opinion.

BHillzebub

I believe it's a different voice actor depending on region. He's watching the UK region one so it's Jeremy Clarkson. Not sure about who voices him elsewhere.

Acid

I'm hoping this is another great influence for you to cover more animated movies. I still would absolutely LOVE for you to cover the Dark Knight Returns movies. I already know something to pull at you, Batman is voiced by Robocop in that! Maybe one day.. 💚

Acid

If you haven't seen Toy Story in donkeys yrs like you say, that'd be a beautiful thing to cover with a new film perspective. I wanna say it was TS2 that was almost completely lost/deleted during production. 🤙

Mark

One of my fav animation 🙂 I don't know if you mention it, but it heavily based on Doc Hollywood movie (with Michael J. Fox), which also pretty cute 🙂

ammogreed

I gotta admit this movie actually brought me back to this subscription tier. Maybe make kiddo the content manager for the channel! Great content Kai, I was also blown away by Hudsons slow mo scene.

ammogreed

Racing movies are dope, consider reacting to the gran turismo movie

ammogreed

Oof that's right up your alley, Kai!

Light

Hey kai, I know you are out of the office right now, but since you watched an animated film I wanted to give a childhood suggestion. Surfs Up, its a movie about penguins/other animals that are like humans and its about surfing. I think you would enjoy the cinematic choices they used in it, and ill give a hint, it has a mocumentary style to it.👌🫡

Kai Zammit - Filmmaker Reacts

I'm actually not away yet fella. My last day is tomorrow but I can still read all your messages and comments when I am away. Regarding you movie recommendation, it sounds familiar.

Light

Oh really, guess I missread the announcement lol. Highly recommend and I would say a beautiful and funny movie. Shia LeBeouf is the lead. 🫡

tutu gurgas

Harv's VA in the UK version is actually Jeremy Clarkson himslef!

Austin Ball

I’ll echo one of the other comments: it would be, well, *incredible* if you would cover “The Incredibles.” My all time favorite pixar movie. Also, great reactions, made my eyes water a bit too

RandomPatron

If you love the racing atmosphere of movies, a more modern one to check out is Gran Turismo! A great movie, and personally connects with gamers and the dreams of making it big.

Spoder

Would love a reaction to The Incredibles. Its my favorite animated movie by far

Seyomint

Cars always has a special place in my heart. The spinoff films Planes hits just as well as Cars!

MrBoss99

I’m so happy you liked it! It’s by far one of my favorite movies. I’d love to see your reaction to the other 2 films. The second one is very different in that it almost focuses on Mater more than McQueen, but I still love it. The 3rd one is another favorite as it gives more backstory to Doc and relates his relationship with McQueen to McQueens relationship with one of the new main characters.

Bradin Stories

hope you do the other two movies too

Ian Davidson

The UK version was Jeremy Clarkson, but we had someone else in the states, thats great, love Clarkson
