"Kept you waiting, huh?"

This is it, the climax!

We’ve got two boss fights on our hands and oh my goodness, I think I’ve found my favourite Metal Gear Solid.

My brain is frazzled and I genuinely feel I need to go back through this game again just to make sure I caught everything. The layers in the story are mental, metal gear mental and I would want nothing less from a Kojima game.

Also lore-masters, please help your boy out in the comment section below to my questions but like I say in the post review watch, please… No spoilers for future titles.

Can you also let me know if I’m right, wrong or way off when it comes to the MOTHER of our favourite pistol spinning bastard. I think I’ve got that one but I want to make sure.

I also want to know what happened to EVA after she went back to China with the fake and who the hell is Ocelot speaking to at the end? He’s always got a phone call ready that boy. The biggest question I’ve got is have we met the guy he’s speaking with?

So many questions, so little time. I’m invested and rightfully so. It is a piece of cinematic art this game especially given the year it was made.

It does make me laugh though when you get these mini movie cutscenes and then you have to transition over to the gameplay. Eastern gameplay at that! If you know the Japanese style of gaming and you should by now. Then you know exactly what I’m referring too.

Play the Tape!

P.S. The Metal Gear Solid Series will CONTINUE with MGS4 in November 2026.

Kaiiiiiiii. You beautiful son of a bitch. Now I have something to watch while I’m troubleshooting my PC Registration issues Also, I think you keep bringing it up and I watched an old uncharted series while I was at work yesterday from you Metal gear 1 and 2 were on the MX 2 home computer system. It wasn’t any S version of the first game, but it was not the same game. It was different. MGS1. Ps1 MGS2 and 3 were PS2 MSG4 up until recently was PlayStation three only because the game was designed so heavily around the cell processor that the engine basically relied on it. It wasn’t until recent with the collection is that they became available elsewhere. At least not officially. And then finally phantom pain/ground zeros was on the PS4/Xbox one. Just to give you a bit of a timeline as to when or what systems were out during the release originally. And I appreciate your nod to David Hayter, but just one time you need to stay snake eater in that high-pitched voice like the song. But now you know why a lot of people are excited for Physint. It’s Pocima’s returned to stealth espionage. He did the death stranding thing for a bit, but he’s returning to his roots. The genre that he’s known for.

Matthew Taylor

Can’t wait for you to get to metal gear solid 4

AgentRedShirt

Since you brought up Transformers, I’ll do this in a separate comment real quick. I don’t know if you’ve seen the cut scene for XCOM.2. There’s not a ton, but one of the actors in there was voiced by Jon Bailey. First time I heard his voice I was like well hello Optimus prime.

PeppaShrekky

Ocelot is speaking to the CIA director and correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but I believe that it is a set up for Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, a semi-canon title like Metal Gear Rising

MSephiroth

Same, that one is something special man, and I'm replaying it myself since it finally came out of PS3 purgatory hell xD

PeppaShrekky

If you want more Metal Gear Solid 3 content, make sure to check out the Secret Theatre tapes. They are blooper style comedic cutscenes that really show more of Kojima's flair

Ocelot

The vignette on the right side of the screen only appears in game after snakes lost his right eye

Alex

The magic words, Boss. I’ve been waiting 9 years to hear ‘em

ERIK

The Secret Theatre tapes came into Fruition because the team had some time after the game was done to mess around so they decided to create a bunch of hilarious bits. Would love to see you react to them, Kai

Fsaitza

Kai just before getting to Metal Gear Solid 4 I strongly reccomend you see Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, and Metal Gear Solid: Peacemaker first. These ones explore more about Big Boss and how is he related to The Patriots, which is going to be a major theme for the 4th part. Also the cinematics are cool too

Hyp3r-Tom

Duuuude you gotta check out the mgs3 secret theater! For reals, its a small collection of special cutscenes on a second disc that you could only watch after you beat the game, and theyre the cherry on top of the mgs3 experience imo lol we cant leave them out :p

PeppaShrekky

Leave Peace Walker until after MGS4, it spoils key reveals in MGS4 and also just flows better with MGSV after it

PeppaShrekky

The reason why Volgin keeps popping in his death is all the bullets wrapped around him that are getting shot around due to the lightning

Hyp3r-Tom

KAI my mannn I'm about to sit down for this but reading your post, I'm going to guess you are correct about the MOTHER of our favorite pistol spinning bastard! Now that you've finished mgs3 it's not a spoiler to confirm Boss is Ocelot's mama

Ocelot

Your right, Ocelot is the son of the boss and The Sorrow. And also why Ocelot was first introduced, he was Adam, he jammed his gun on purpose, creating a stovepipe stoppage to check Snakes CQC and get confirmation that it is him that he was meant to meet. A secret R1 press at the end in the presidents office, you see Ocelot in the window behind the president doing the classic finger points. And if you select the wrong gun in the face off with him on the plane, Ocelot fires, laughs and says 'its a blank'. During this same scene, when Ocelot and Snake are fighting is when Ocelot uses his slight of hand to take the legacy from Snake, that he just received from the boss, and replaced it with a fake. Then Eva stole that fake from Snake, thinking she was delivering the real one to the Chinese. The phone calls on the end, he first calls the head of KGB, he then makes the second call, reporting to the director at Langley. Langley Virginia is where the CIA HQ is based. So it's not anyone you meet in game Can't wait for MGS4, (no spoilers) your reaction to the BBs and Act 4. I feel MGS 4 is a good love letter to the fans.

Ocelot

They are included in the remaster on ps5, so if or when you react to that hopefully they show those too

PeppaShrekky

Yeah, you control Snake when he shoots The Boss. You can shoot her immediately or wait a while.

Jonas B

YES YES YES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! Ill write my thoughts after I watch it lol

John Mc Ternan

It's not as if I'd never seen betrayal before and in media but when he wakes up and it quietly dawn's on him, wow the way they pull the rug from underneath him is incredible after those last few hours. Even if you never got to four the first three form an incredible trilogy.

John Mc Ternan

And none of the buttons work accept Square to shoot just like how Snake is been railroaded into doing this.

AgentRedShirt

From what I understand portable ops was kind of meant to be a follow up, but Kojima didn’t directed and it was on the PSP so it was just a bunch of standalone missions. But none of the later entries really took the story elements of portable ops to heart. Even peace Walker kind of takes a dismissive shot at portable ops. Peace Walker, however, is much more important to the integral story arc. I’m not sure if you wanna do things in release order or if you’re trying to go for more canonical from here. But in chronological order, peace Walker would be the next major story point after MGS3. Then it’s on ground zeros. Then MGSV phantom pain. Finally.MGS4 is the final story wrap up for solid snake.

PeppaShrekky

I agree with what you said about the time at the end, it feels very anime-like. Similar to Dragon Ball Z, where the planet is going to blow up in 5 minutes and yet there's another 20 episodes until it does.

PeppaShrekky

And get some popcorn ready for Metal Gear Solid 4. If you think these cutscenes were long and padded, 4 is girthy as hell

Ivan Brkljačić

When you realise the most honoured boss in all of gaming is a woman. Fully respected, loved, and even making us fall apart at the end for her. The full loop. As if the game was trying to make you into a man.

VonEv1l

100% watch them

Fsaitza

And just a tiny sneak peak at MGS4, the intro cutscene of that game for a long time has been one of the longest in gaming history, so if at any point youre wondering how long is that cutscene, its probably not even past the middle of it. And as far as I know, it was unskipabble.

Jonas B

I've tried to write a big ol' Kojima length message here, but ultimately I don't think there's much need for that anymore. You know this series (and this game) is fantastic. So I'll just drop some random thoughts: 1. MGS3 is, in my opinion, one of the greatest games with one of the greatest stories in gaming. 2. I ALWAYS cry at the end. Always. I feel like most people would to, especially if they decide to replay the game with all the context they have after the first playthrough. It's heartbreaking. 3. Yes, The Boss IS indeed Ocelot's mother. Another nice detail is that The Sorrow is said to be a spirit medium, which further lends to the whole idea of Ocelot being "possesed" by Liquid in MGS2. 4. Isn't it crazy that the ENTIRE rest of the Metal Gear series only exists because Volgin launched that nuke at the very start of the game? I love that. 5. There ARE more Big Boss games. We'll get to them after 4. 6. MGS4 held (possibly still holds) the world record for both the longest single cutscene and the longest consecutive sequence of cutscenes in any game to date. CANNOT FUC*ING WAIT! Don't get us waiting, Kai! Cheers! P.S - another really nice detail is that the fight against The Boss has no music at first. The theme song of the game (Snake Eater) kicks in after 5 minutes. It's a nice touch but it's really impactful. P.S 2 - this was still the PS2. Isn't that incredible? Kojima and the team really pushed the hardware to it's absolute limits and it shows. Hell, I'd argue it still holds up incredibly well today with both the gameplay and the cutscenes. P.S 3 - Ever since I've played through the MGS series (which was over 10 years ago at this point) I truly cannot look at most games coming out now in the same way. There have only been very few releases that genuinely make me feel like they're even reaching the level of Kojima was doing... 20 YEARS AGO Cheers again! ...Oh jeez this did end up being a Kojima length message.

John Mc Ternan

Ludo narrative dissonance is the term you're looking for that you're talking about at the end, I think.

Snk444

I think you are referring to a different cutscene later in the game, not the intro. Massive understatement also that we are calling that a cutscene

Masu

Just want to point out something that will become sort of important later. There has been a recurring gag character througout all the metal gear solid games who's name is Johnny. Meryl stole the soldier's uniform from him in MGS1 (he had a severe case of diarrhea). In mgs2 you can listen to him complain about his stomach ache using the directional mic at some secret spots. And in mgs3 , you meet gran daddy Johnny in part 2 of your video.

Sputnik

There's a ton of codec calls that basically act as a codex for all the extra lore. The one thing I think should be known is that before she was the boss, she was known as the Joy. The joy fell in love with the Sorrow, polar opposites kinda thing. Their names were based off the emotion they brought into battle. The pain, fear, fury ect. The end is the only weird one, but I think it's more a translation thing about death.

Tony

59:45 the wtf moment is The Boss firing the second Davy Crockett nuke at Grozny Grad to cover the traces of the mission (what Ocelot mentioned after the credits). I love how unclear it is after all the paranormal shit we’ve seen, like it happens so fast that most people just brush it off as another Kojima effect/metaphor lol

Sputnik

Also as a side note on the codec canon, Snake believes in vampires and is really scared of them.

Tony

I'm really glad you liked the game so much man, it's my fav of all time. I'm still watching, but after reading the description saying you wanna revisit it later to catch up on everything, I gotta say the footage you've been watching is criminally shortened and missing A LOT of interesting stuff, codec calls, references, etc. And it skipped lots of GREAT scenery, like the river where Snake has to swim with the crocodile head mask, or Grozny Grad itself.. and the SORROW boss battle is ridiculous here..It's one of the most iconic parts where you were supposed to see everyone the player killed in the game and they just skipped 80% of it lol I'd recommend either finding a full walkthrough vid to skip through and look for the stuff you missed, or watching "Metal Gear Solid 3 (MGS3) Movie HD 60fps PS3 All Cutscenes with Secrets" on youtube. it has slightly more gameplay too so it doesn't look as weird as here, where Snake just teleports from cutscene to cutscene with not enough context what's happening and how he ended up there

Justin Weatherman

I’m always so pumped for every new video drop for this series. You’re keeping us waiting just the right amount!

Magnet Hand

Beautiful stuff, 4 is gonna be a long one I cant wait

Selph

In other words, fuck patriotism. \o/

Local Degenerate

It's not that games have become too political imo, it's just the culture has changed in movies and gaming (there are media that tastelessly do it as virtue signaling as well imo). MGS is one of the most political games, it does have a political agenda. Metal Gear solids games are overtly anti-imperialist and anti-war. Hence for ex. why the united states is portrayed as a country controlled by a shadow organization that is willing to betray its own soldiers and behave unethically towards its own citizens to maintain their own power. A common theme in the series are soldiers being used as chess pieces and not treated as people, even the main characters who are built up as titans as you have seen so far end up with similar fates due to their blind patriotism. None of the games in the series really paint a bright picture about governmental establishments, most if not all are portrayed as being morally corrupt or weak. I won't spoil, but the future titles really hammer in this viewpoint.

Alan Stock

In the long Shagohod chase cutscene you were talking about continuity errors. So yes they did cut out some bits of gameplay inbetween those cuts where you were fighting guys around the warehouses and the motorcycle guys. The ending of this game from the Shagohod chase onwards is one of my faves ever. Your adrenaline is just pumping with all the music, cutscenes and gameplay (forest Eva escort aside) and the pace doesn't let up. It is so gripping especially when you're playing it for real.

Ruukasu97

the budged was 10 million pounds

Ruukasu97

the child of the boss and sarrow is ocelot

Ruukasu97

metal gear solid 4 is the finale of the franchise, 5 is a prequel to metal gear 1 this is the chronological order Metal Gear Solid 3 - 1964 Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - 1970 Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker - 1974 Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes - 1975 Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - 1984 Metal Gear - 1995 Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake - 1999 Metal Gear Solid - 2005 Metal Gear Solid 2 - 2007/2009 Metal Gear Solid 4 - 2014 Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - 2018

Ruukasu97

it was the bosses mission to be killed by snake no idea if he couldve beaten her

Carl Weatherford

please do mgs 4 the movie with interactive scenes lol

Carl Weatherford

, "Guinness World Records officially tracks the 27-minute scene from Metal Gear Solid 4 as the longest individual, uninterrupted cutscene in video game history." and theres longer but its interrupted at the end of mgs4

Selph

I would advise against it. Portable Ops came out before MGS4 but isn't really canon. It's more of a spin-off using some events of the MGS chronology as a backdrop (and while those events are canon, the story itself and its details aren't part of the main MGS storyline). MGS Peace Walker was released after MGS4, and it will spoil and greatly diminish the impact of some revelations (e.g, the end) if you watch it first.

Callum Hurley

Remember how we learned the Patriots died around 100 years ago in the MGS2 cliffhanger?

Callum Hurley

The 12 men of the Wisemans Committee, the Philosophers... Died in 1930.

Callum Hurley

Also, you said keep the Sepia at the final graveyard scene. Look up the PS2 original. It was the HD remaster which you watched that over blew the bloom.

The Dutch Dude

You know its a good espionage story when you, the viewer, fall hook line and sinker alongside the protagonist. Marvelous

Dominik Hudák

Kai you got to watch Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. Game made for PS VITA or PSP... but it continues the story of Big Boss and its very important . I recommend watching it before Metal Gear Solid 5. Its very importand

Kain D. Zero

As I mentioned on part 2 I am surprised you didn't recognize The Time Streamer Moebius voice actor Richard Doyle from Legacy of Kain voicing The Fury.

2026-10-17 07:00 Volgin will return in Metal Gear Solid 5 but it's never actually revealed in the game that it actulaly is Volgin. He will have a different name in MGS5.

Thats a spoiler dude 🤦‍♂️

Jake Kez

Patiently waiting for 4. Probably longest in terms of cutscenes and concludes the timeline
