Good reaction especially the ''Why you keep shooting him bullets are expensive'....'jeez

Manospondylus

Surprising lack of running for a Tom Cruise movie.

Ryan Alexander

The movie isn't really historically accurate, but it is historically authentic. They recreate the time period and the issues that were being dealt with quite well, and it does borrow a fair amount from real history. The battle at the end is clearly inspired by the actual last stand of the Samuri at Shiroyama. The 500 remaining Samuri were under siege by an army of 20,000. The Samuri did use guns, but had run out of ammunition and most other supplies. Rather then surrender they donned their swords and armor one last time, and launched an attack just before sunrise, catching their opponents off guard. The Samuri decimated two regiments before the rest of the imperial army realize what was happening and moved in to finish of the Samuri who fought to the last man. Despite the less then perfect history I still consider this a great film, excellent reaction too.

"You son of a bitch! Don't make me curse you, you bastard." I know Chi doesn’t like to swear, but that was hilarious.😅 Since Katie is such a big Tom Cruise fan, I'm up for a reaction series with her to Tom Cruise movies. I really like The Last Samurai and Tom Cruise is such a brilliant actor. The scenes in the village are just beautiful, definitely a place I'd love to travel to. The actor who plays Katsumoto, Ken Watanabe, is also in Inception, which is a really great sci-fi movie by Christopher Nolan and, as a big bonus, Leonardo DiCaprio plays the lead role. I would definitely recommend that movie for a reaction. And for more Tom Cruise, I would Like to recommend Oblivion. Also a really good sci-fi movie that I think is a bit underrated. As a bonus for Chi, the actor who plays Jaime Lanister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, also has a small role in the movie. That was an awesome reaction, ladies, as always!💜

Tom Cruise's flashbacks was when the Americans was killing the Native Americans. They calked them Indians back then. And I think you should watch "Dancing With Wolves" to learn a little about the Native Americans

Victor Herrera

Munchies you should react to "The las of the Mohicans"-1992. great movie and soundtrack.

Gregory A Mann

The reason Cruise asks for Sake when he first wakes up is because of withdrawal from alcohol. Seriously bad - been there done that (yes, I'm a former alcoholic)

Daryl 👽

As a Native American, I agree!! Watch Dances with Wolves 😍

Michael Gilbrook

Yes! A beautiful and classic film! A perfect choice for Chi and Hella to watch.

Steven

I lived in Japan for a year and really liked it. It was a very important experience for my life. Nothing forces you to grow as a person like travelling. If you like this film, there is a recent American-made TV series called Shogun. That's very good and has some of the same Japanese actors as this movie. I thought it was even better than this film. Maybe not great for the channel, but if you want to get more into Japanese history/culture that series is more historically accurate. Tom Cruise has been in a lot of great movies, but he made War of the Worlds and Minority Report with Stephen Speilberg, so you can't go wrong there. He's also great in Collateral, and in Interview with a Vampire that also stars Brad Pitt. They made that movie just for Katie :)

Looney

I'm happy to see Katie back.

Henry N.

This comment will probably get lost but if you want to watch a truly perfect Samurai film, I'd recommend Harakiri by Masaki Kobayashi. Unbelievable film that subverts the traditional Samurai narrative. It's a bit like Unforgiven.

King Bob

for the most part, it is ok, but the American involvement is complete fiction.

Eric Muirhead

Last of the Mohicans is a great film. Yes!

Ryan Alexander

Fictional, but serve an important purpose to the film by providing an outside perspective. Be really strange for the Samuri to be explaining things about themselves to each other. Kind of feel like they'd already know

Proto Type

The Spartans, as referenced in the battle of Thermopylae, looked down on the use of ranged weapons like slings or bows and likened them to something a weakling would use, as they aspired for physical strength and courage in battle ~ So I agree with Katie, it's a cowardly way to fight....

Manospondylus

Hair down + glasses looks fantastic Katie.

Grumpy Monk

Chi is just as pretty as Taka.

David Collins

Someone else mentioned this but I really think you would enjoy "Dances With Wolves" as a look into the cultural times that Captain Algren came from, en route to his saga in Japan. It's a very compelling look at Native American culture as it met the westward advance of European culture across America. There really are very few movies that I genuinely consider "must watch" movies but "Dances With Wolves" would certainly be one of them, and near the top of the list at that.

SM

There are probably another 15 Tom Cruise movies that would be good reactions. I would currently most like to see 'Magnolia' (1999), 'Rain Man' (1988), and 'Far and Away' (1992).

PJJR

He's an alcoholic and is shaking because he's going through withdrawals which include headaches, nausea, tremors, anxiety, hallucinations, seizures, and in some cases death.

Tony P.

Beautiful reaction to a beautiful movie. To be so lost and then to be so found by a culture and language you don't even understand, such a great movie all around. Chi almost had a Grand Torino moment there again. To go back and revisit some movies you haven't done this was definitely my number one pick for Chi to watch and if she hasn't seen it yet, I think they would really enjoy Castaway. I know Hella would really appreciate how Tom Hanks can carry the movie all by himself. Happy you got to watch The Last Samurai.

Henry N.

I wish he would take on more roles like Magnolia and Eyes Wide Shut. These days he really only does blockbusters.

Henry N.

Isn't Dances With Wolves just the same film but with Native Americans instead of Samurai?

David Collins

Certainly there are some similarities, but no, that's really not a fair assessment for either movie.

TippedDuke

That series was superb.

fan

Did Chi watch this one before? I thought it was Tien and Hella?

Daryl 👽

I just finished watching this. It was my first time… A very touching, heartbreaking film.. Edward Zwick is a great Director. Another good film by him is Blood Diamond. I think Dances with Wolves would be a very good film to watch next as well.. to understand the Native American’s history. My people.. another great historical film. 🥹

Frozen Yak

Every time Chi and Katie would compliment the actress's beauty, and when Katie says she's jealous, I'm thinking to myself - "If Hollywood editing and makeup have the actress looking like that, what do the Movie Munchies ladies do to look as good as her?" Not to mention when they discuss how amazing the town in the mountains is, which I agree it's really nice and I'd live there too, but that's literally one of the reasons I keep visiting Vietnam. Just today I saw a video of rolling fields of flowers near Da Lat. :D

Dualin

This was a really great movie in every way, all about Belief, Traditional Values, Honor, and Valor things that all good and great men and woman are made of, and watching with you ladies and your reactions and comments made it even greater, thank you.

CS

I think its great that you go back and watch movies Chi missed

Ervin Cortez

Hi CHI, Great reaction so far. Can you turn up the movie's volume? I am in the first 10 minutes of it,... thanks........

I’m a new subscriber and having trouble with Streamable. It stutters and freezes all the time. I watch with my iPad and iPhone and it does it with both devices. Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Digitalversager

I know the problem when I watch on TV via the Xbox browser. What helps me is lowering the resolution to 720p; apparently, the Xbox browser can't handle 4K. Maybe try that, too.

Nathanial House

William Atherton, the guy plays Arthur Layton of the Winchester Rifle Company at the beginning of the movie, has a knack for those weenie characters (Richard Thornburg in DIE HARD; EPA Agent Walter Peck in GHOSTBUSTERS) but his range is incredible.

CS

I've heard before of embedded videos lagging in their ios app. If you're in that, try opening in browser instead. Safari I assume for you. Also could try opening the streamable link directly. Idk how on iphone/ipad - in firefox, i just right-click a playing video to get the url, and then watch directly on streamable.

ThaBurga

I didn't know Katie watched Anime! Can you do any anime uploads? watching a series for the first time? Or movies? So many great anime out there! : D

Daryl 👽

Just rewatched this again. 🥲 What a beautiful film... Chi, if you're interested in another historical film based in Japan, i recommend: Silence (2016) Directed by Martin Scorsese Starring Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man + Hacksaw Ridge) It's a true story based in the 17th century of Japan. During this time, Christianity was banned in Japan. Met with harsh prosecution. But the church still tried to spread Christianity in secret. The story is: A priest went missing so the church sent two priests to sneak into Japan to find him.

Lee

A series covering much of the same territory, but through more of a Japanese perspective, is "Shogun" from 2024. It won 18 Emmy awards and is well worth considering for your reaction.

Mikael L

People like to criticize the West. But who else would make a movie critical of themselves?
