Ooooh. Excellent choice Munchies. I love this movie. Excited to watch this one tonight. Specially with the OG Munchies. Chi and Hella 😄

Daryl 👽

Omg I LOVEEEE this movie!!! I cannot wait to watch it tomorrow!!

Rob Pitt

I love this film, I also love the Stargate Universe TV show (not SG1, the short-lived Universe show)

Gam

Can ya'll react to these Kurt Russell movies: 'Used Cars' 1980, 'Escape From New York' 1981, 'Big Trouble in Little China' 1986, 'Overboard' 1987, 'Backdraft' 1981, and (I know ya'll two, have reacted to this one, but maybe the others, could react to: 'Tombstone' 1993)

Burárum

Nice! Amazon actually recently just canceled the new Stargate series, they had some of the original writers working on it for months but new management said it was too fan focused so it will probably be redone with new writers to reach a "broader audience".

I got this VHS tape for my birthday as a kid and watched this movie probably 100 times. Core millennial nostalgia as far as I'm concerned. You can never go home again.

Stargate was the first movie I ever saw in the cinema, and I still love it just as much as I did back then. It's such a great movie. I've always been fascinated by the theory that aliens built the pyramids, so the movie was right up my alley. And if you think about it, we still don't really know how the pyramids were built; we only have theories, and a new one pops up every few decades. The special effects were also very impressive back then. The effect with the masks doesn't look quite as good today, but the Stargate effect looks still nice. The only criticism I have of the movie is that the beginning is a bit contradictory. First, they don't know what the symbols mean, then they're surprised that Daniel solved it in 14 days, and suddenly they know all the symbols except the last one and have even already conducted tests with the Stargate. But that doesn't ruin the movie for me. This movie has spawned several successful TV show spin-offs, most notably Stargate SG-1. These TV shows have massively expanded the entire Stargate universe and are mostly very good. You'll probably get many comments suggesting you react to Stargate SG-1. It would actually be a good show for a reaction. But it's also a real monster in terms of scope. Stargate SG-1 alone has 10 seasons with a total of 210 episodes, and at one episode per week, it would take several years to react to the series. That was a great discussion at the end and as always an awesome reaction from you ladies.💜

Yes!! Stargate is hands down the greatest scify franchise ever made! I’d loose it if you did the sg1 tv series as well😂 mind you it’s 10 seasons so totally understandable to avoid such a long one

lee eames

Look forward to watching tonight.

Hurrakan

Bunni! Bunni way!

Mark W

indubitably!

Ryan Alexander

Should definitely watch the TV shows, some of the best Scifi ever made. SG1 starts off a little rough, but really gets going by season 3, and all of Atlantis is top notch

Michael Tucker

Check out the Fly a great sci-fi movie

Dajefe70

Stargate Atlantis was the first series I watched in the franchise. I hadn't realize I was watching a young Jason Momoa for the longest time, but I understand why he was awesome.

K

Awesome. It is an underrated movie. The movies and shows do a great job blending mythology, history and sci-fi.

lee eames

Kurt Russell played Macready in The Thing.

HELLO Munchies!!!! YESS!! Stargate, I grow up with this one. Well, in fact, mostly with the TV show. (I saw this movie way way later....). But this is this universe who made me love Sy-fy in the first place (even before anything else, even Star wars. ) I know that i'll enjoy it even before looking at it. Just hearing the opening music and I'm back as a child. looking the TV show each saturday. And growing up looking at it, I though I willl be like O'nneil (if you see the how you'll understand better why I said that). In the end, I'm daniel without Sha'uri !!! ( a big history nerd saying "don't do that ! it's not a good thing to do!" 🤣) ..Anyway !! let's enjoy the movie who began everything and see you discovering it!! 🥳🥳 "An old one" Yeap 1994. The actors you know Kurt russel. (colonel O'nneil) You saw him in "tombstones" and "guardian of the galaxy 2" (the "father"). it's quite a famous actor. And James Spadder (aka Daniel Jackson, the linguist) was also the actor behind Ultron is avengers 2. (I learned something too today !😅). And Erick avary (Kassuf, the chief of the village) is also in " The Mummy"! The museum guy who sacrified himself. and also made an appearance in "the dictator". About the pyramids, today we have a rough idea how they were build now. maybe by building ramps over the construction site to pull stones on the top . We are not completly sure how in the detail or even why (despite being tombs or symbol of power). but we know a little much than back then. But the theory about" Aliens builded it" or even helping humans to evolves (hence becoming our old gods and pantheon) aren't news and Stargate made it his main point .( Even my uncle believe in that theory...😅 Oh my....). Instead of mystical Gods, we have aliens with technology who use religious belief as a way to dominate! Stargate in his all is criticizing (or making fun of, if you want) of religion and godhood all the way (even more in the show) and put an end to slavery and bring freedom is a huge part of the show. (maybe too naive or too "USA is the ultimate freedom fighter", but when you see when the movie was made... not surprising either😅) "Wheel of fortune" 😂 Hella, remember the movie "Event Horizon". Well, the "water" forming the gate is what we can called an "event horizon" in Sy-fy's fiction. this is the only other time I heard the term "event horizon" (the horrors movie and Stargate's universe) But believe me, the opening of the gate in the show is even more iconic (When you heard as often as me, you can heard it just by seeing the image ! 😅). Not speaking about the music too.... I'm a child again now. The symbols on the gate are constellation . but they are constellation only because we saw them form Earth. if we look from another place in space , the POV change so the constellation aren't the same at all. that's why the symbol on the other gate aren't the same. (if you wondered) Good try to "meow" in abydosian Munchies! 😅 Hella was really damn funny trying to speak like them!😅 And I love that Hella had the same idea about the city looking like the city of GOT (just like Tiên and Lan did)😂. I love that the movie is not translating the abydosian until Jackson understand them enough. (or when they're only them in the scenes) I found this add a lot to the immersions. we learn how they talked at the same times as the team. Btw, they created the language by make assumption on how the old egyptian language could have sound. so it's based on real written language but guessing how it could have sounded.😅 (they didn't took back this idea in the show, but they expanded with so much planet... they weren't going to invent a new language each time !! 🤣 so in the show, everyone know english !! except for some aliens who come back often). How many combinaisons on the Stargate ? 720 !( the show said it once, If you have all the correct symbol but not in the right order: 720😂) if you don't have the 6 th first, you're going for some millions !! 😅 It's not Ra who destroyed the seventh symbol in the mine, hella. it was just Time passing by who eroded it. But I love Chi mindset " this creature is exploiting Humans, let's kill it !!" 🤣 Hella ... Why are you saying "bon'appétit" at 1h23 before Ra ?😂 it mean "have a good meal !" in french. 😂 I don't understand it. it's funny how surprising this is. but i don't understand...😅 "I though we were working for them!" Ra's species are building their empire with religions (I'm your god) and fear ("obey or die" and "if you fail me, you'll be punished! by death !!"). Humans are just slaves and cattle to pick host for themselves. "Who is this girl" 😂 that's Ra!!🤣 I don't blame you. they really wanted to play the card of the aliens looking androgynous (both male and female looking) who try to seduce you to join his side. (don't ask me why, but ancient Egytp have this kind of very seualized and seducing style that westerner love to put on it. Now when you see some pictures of ancient egypt, you understand why...plus the reputation of Cleopatra, queen of egypt, as a seducive woman and so on.) But let's say that his "alien face" is very different from those in the show despite being supposed to be the same species. ( a little retcon, but a good one! believe me stargate has a lot of retcon... not always good.) Chi speaking to Ra's guard "Why are you doing it?", they served their God plus he not even be from this planet in the first place. and In the show, we can see how much of a slaves those people actually are... they really can obey any kind of orders. The "hospital" is called a sarcophagus. (yes, they call it like the funeral 😅) "I want to see them come back !" Well the TV show "Stargate SG-1" is there for telling their new adventures! (different casting except for some abydosian like the chief and the boy but same characters.) I have the wild dream, like other in the comment, that you could do SG-1. This is clearly the show who expanded the universe and really make it one of the space-opera/Sy-fy greatest franchise (with Star-trek, Star wars, Dune and Warhammer 40k). For me Richard Dean Anderson and Mickael Shanks are the face of O'nneil and Jackson! way more than Kurt russel and James spader will ever be). BUT 210 episode on 10 seasons (mostly filler on a episodic format without much continuity between them, it evolved along time to be more "main-story focused" ) , with 40 min each episode (and sometimes special one long as a 1h30 movie), plus 2 spin off after season 7 . So 140 more episode happening at the same time (with "Stargate Atlantis" and "Stargate universe", it's like looking at MCU's movies and TV show) and 2 movies to end the show... Plus a new show being in preparation right now !!... I'll understand that it is way too much!!! Even 2 or 3 episode at a time. it will take years (maybe 2 or 3) and not everyone will like it. The show has "quite badly aged" on some visuals effect. (and also we feeled this show come from a time where "what's moraly accpetable" was very different than today) But we can see how TV show evolved with the time with those 😅 For Short, I dream to see it with you one day... but I'm pretty sure it will not happen (even just for SG-1 it will be too much time to do it. Way more than GOT)🥲😭. Of course, it's your decision. my only recommandation, if you don't do it on the channel, don't hesitate to do it in private !! it's so worth it!! and knowing you, you'll love it. between the humour, adventures, fighting, discovering new worlds and the characters who are very endearing! As I know you, no way you don't like it even just a little!😉 Anyway, I spoke too much !!! I'm so happy that you like it. And Yes, I had a wonderful time ! Hella cracked me up many times trying to speak abydosian🤣 and Chi also had her moment very funny. A wonderful time ! "Indeed"😉 Have a wonderful time Munchies. and see you next time!

My theory about the movie contradicting himself is : they know the most of it, but only the seventh is causing problem. at they aren't seeing the one looking close enough (which is stupid I agree! it was obvious enough) they maybe think they need to translate something more of it. and as Daniel is the only one who will accept (just to prove his theory) and also the best. Plus they may not complelty saw it was constellations in the first place. theu just copied the symbol they had and let's go! After all, the only things the other guy said was "this symbol is not on the device". THe only things who doesn't made sense at all is in the show. they succeed to open the gate before the event of the movie. they found some archives about them succeeding somewhere near WW2 but stop everything when they lose one guy. So with this logic, they know the 7th one... but it's in the show. the show is having a lot of retcon (even about how Ra's species look) so let this one flow and enjoy it! I feeled back in childhood. But I sadly agree. there's no way the show can be react to... it's too long just for SG-1😥

Kyle Turman

omg now you guys have to watch the show. its so silly, sometimes stupid, but such a fun time to watch!

Alec Dacyczyn

It's too long. Maybe fans should curate a list of the 20-30 most essential episodes. I'm thinking of doing that with StarTrek TNG.

Kyle Turman

I get what you're saying, you're not wrong. But I'm still going to advocate for the whole series

Looney

Thanks Munchies! This was so much fun. Always been a fan of this movie. I remember it coming out back in the 90s and it was a pretty big movie here. And did I hear during the intro that The Fifth Element is coming too? I hope I heard that right. I love that movie. If I misheard you, then oops. Sorry lol. Either way. Thank you Chi. Thank you Hella. Another fantastic reaction, ladies. 😄

Greact reaction, ladies. I'm glad you liked it! I finished watching it last night. Chi's reaction to everyone bullying Daniel was funny. 😆 I'm obsessed with everything about this film. I don't know why. And the score... 🤌 I listen to it all the time on Spotify.

I recommend another Kurt Russel move "Big Trouble in Little China". It's a cult classic.
